Remote control issues

I thought for sure this would be an active topic on the forums, but multiple searches didn't come up with anything, so apologies if this is a repeat. The remote control on my '10 3150RL suddenly quit working. I replaced the battery (it chews through them), but no luck. Anyone know where the receiver is on the unit? I don't see anything that looks like one in the front compartment, and the unit didn't come with any manuals for it.

Thinking back on our 2010' the receiving unit was up by the hydraulic pump in the front storage. I gave up on the remote after six months, never did work right for us. 2015 did not come with one.

X2. We gave up on the remote on our 2010, and do not miss it on the 2014.

Our receiver is on the ceiling of the front compartment, lots of wires to it. Played with the remote a bit when we first bought the rig, more trouble than it's worth. It's been in a drawer ever since.

Ours is also in "storage" and our receiver is in the ceiling of the front compartment. Too many folks were having too many problems with both the receiver and the unit. I didn't find it useful so I scrapped it.

I have a HC with the remote, love it. I can walk around and watch the slides as they go out and in to make sure there is nothing in the way set in my truck to lower and raise the landing gear. Mine did eat batteries. I put a battery disconnect on it. Problem solved. Been 2 years and haven't put a battery in since.

You might try to reset the receiver by disconnecting your rig battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnecting it to see if the receiver board reboots. Worth a try, usually with any type of computer, when all else fails, reboot. Last resort would be to call Lippert Components to get the manual reset procedure for your specific remote and receiver.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies regarding the location of the control box and possible fixes, and thanks bncinwv for typing what I was thinking. I like using the remote for the rear stabilizers and to tweak the landing gear when I'm hooking up. I don't use it for the slides, since I want to see what's happening inside the unit when the slides are moving.

When we bought our Big Sky, the remote never worked the awnings - the only thing I thought I would use it for. Everybody told us they never worked right and to just forget it. Well . . . After fighting with Keystone for 8 months, taking it to three different dealers, and having 4 computer boards in it, they finally got our unit into the factory service center. It's a good thing we insisted it work. Turns out they put the wrong relay cluster in our Big Sky when it was built. The melting computer boards were definitely an issue . . . I like the remote and have used it a few times. Our is rechargeable.

The remote fob does eat through batteries and that is why I carry a few extraa23A's in the rig at all times

Here is a photo of what the controller should look like and have many have stated it should be in the front compartment near the hydraulic reservoir (as you are facing the front compartment on the right hand side).

And here is a link to the operating, reset and reprogram instructions: Remote Instructions Also, as Bingo stated if you cannot get the receiver to reprogram, disconnect your coach battery for a few minutes, re-connect it and try again.

If your remote burns through batteries. There is an easy fix. Take the cover off and bend the battery contacs so they don't make contact. Then drill and tap a hole over one of bronze contacts. Put a screw in the hole. When you won't to use the remote tighten the screw up until the contacts touch the battery. I used a brass 6 / 32 screw. Your remote battery will last years instead of a few weeks. If you don't have the equipment to do the job I will do it for you, no charge. If you don't like it take the screw out bend the contacs back and buy a pocket full of batteries.

Don't understand why the OP's batteries keep going dead. My only remote problem has been keeping track of the thing - lost the original and tried very hard to loose the second at last year's rally. Ours doesn't control the new landing gear, but I still use it almost all the time for the stabilizers (real PITA having to keep pushing that button to get them down or up!), but only sometimes the slides (usually am more concerned about stuff catching on the inside than hitting something outside). Use it about half the time for the awning.

Ours gave problems from the very first day we tried it. It also caused the manual switches to stop working. Because of the abuse I suffered from Keystone I removed the entire system from the trailer and installed a fuse panel in its place. I haven’t had any problems since.
