GFI Question
Had to replace the ceiling fan in the living area. Very careful to connect wiring correctly. Everything functions fine but the GFI in the bathroom is different then before, I think. Outlet works fine and the reset button is functioning properly but the red light is off when the switch is working and comes on when I hit the test switch.
What did we do wrong?
Thank You
Ray

If you have power and power goes away with trip and whatever is plugged into it works then all is good. Mine do not have lights. John

I would have expected red light to mean tripped. And a green or no light to mean ok. But from what I have read, older GFCI outlet indicator lights from different manufacturers did not necessarily follow any standard pattern. I think newer ones are more consistent.

I think it is working correctly by the way you have explained the situation. . Red is tripped and nothing on that leg should work.

I replaced ours shortly after we bought the rig because the two that came installed from the factory had no indicator lights on them. The replacements I installed are from ACE Hardware and are their brand. If theses trip they will display a , yes believe it or not, "GREEN" led light. At least now though I have a visual indication that one of them has tripped

I guess what threw me off was that in out house the gfci's all have a red light when they are working and no light when they are tripped. I put a wiring tester into the outlet and it shows all is good. It is the opposite from how the house works and I guess that is what threw me off.
Thank you all for the input.
