Learned a new one

Have seen people report this with the water heater but not the furnace. the other night we had an unusual for us cold snap here in upstate New York. It went below freezing at 2:30 am and down to 29 by 6am and not above freezing until 7am. Anyway about 4am I thought it was unusual that the electric heater was running so much in the bedroom and that I hadn't heard the furnace run(it worked the night before) nothing I did would make it start so I turned on the fireplace and went back to bed. The next day I did some trouble shooting and resets of the CCC to no avail. The relay clicked in the AC but the furnace was quiet as a mouse. Looked at the schematic and decided to trouble shoot outside at the furnace. Took off the cover and there is an on off switch mounted on a bracket. I touched the switch there was a crackle and the furnace came to life and ran perfectly. Turns out it is a combination on/off switch and circuit breaker. None of the local dealers had the part so I substituted a regular switch since the furnace has a fuse in the panel. Anyway I thought I would let people know that there is a switch inside the furnace(in addition to the sail switch) that can fail.

That is good information to have. I have had to replace the mother board before with the heater having similar issues to yours. It would work for a few cycles and then not work. Always worked at the dealer but not up in the mountains. I will try to remember your information about the circuit breaker. Thanks.

Good for you to share, but I did know about it. Found it when I had trouble with furnace on 2008 3400RL.

Just to make it easy to find it's a black switch on a black bracket mounted to a black housing. Thank goodness for colored wires!

If I get a chance this afternoon I remove the cover and take one.
