Hot Water heater not working on electric

Just found out my hot water heater in 2011 3150 is not working on electric but working fine on Gas, I have installed a new element, have power at breaker and 12 volt power to both switchs, and both switches are on. Is there a relay are something else I can check?

Ours went out too on our 3150 and I thought I might have fried the element. But it ended up being a thermostat, the dealer changed it and it works fine now.

My t-stat high temp switch has burned up twice, went to E bay bought 2 of them 19.00 ea all is good now and takes all of 10 min to replace(2 wires and one nut),take the black reset cover off and look at the two switches the one on the left is the 120v stat and on mine you can see it was burned and the wires as well were burned , My part # for the high temp switch in my 12 gal Suburban is #232306

We had to replace our 120V thermostat last year also. Some time after replacing it, I read that Suburban had a recall, I think, on those thermostats that had a red reset button. The button color obviously was not the problem, but they were not up to spec from their supplier. The new thermostat I installed has the grey button, and has been working ever since. OZZ has those parts if you haven't replaced yours yet.

The t-stat has already been mentioned but also check the fuse or breaker and see if that has blown and you might even check the AC switch on the outside of the heater to see if it may have been accidently been turned off. Did that once and it drove me nuts and when I found it was the switch I really felt dumb! Oh well, can't be prefect all the time!

Had the same problem. Mobil repair guy found that in the electrical box on top of the water heater where wires were connected was at fault. Wires were poorly connected and they failed. Heavily blacked and shorted out. Luckily the Monty didn't burn up. Actually might not have been a bad idea as we have been very disappointed in the Monty. Workmanship has definitely gone down hill from our 2004 2980RL.

since you just replaced the element, then you know how to access the heating element. Check that you have 120vac to the element. Sounds like you don't have and so the issue will be the T-stat that is beside the pressure relief valve behind the rubber cover that has 2 buttons on it. John

Do you have 120 volts at the switch on the water heater? Is that same switch in the "on" position?

Testing with a multimeter if you haven't done so already. Could be that one of the new parts is faulty also.

If it isn't a bad part, the only other likely problem is a bad connection, maybe behind the heater, or elsewhere that is burnt. Just have to start at the breaker and work your way to the water heater. Just be careful poking around with live electric, as that's the only way to trace it down.

And so, if you put your meter on one connection of the 120vac element, you should have 120 vac there and the other connection is the neutral/ground connection. IF there is 120vac to one side of the electric element, then the element has to heat up UNLESS the ground connection is not really ground...ie, open OR the element is bad or was burnt up by turning on the electric without the hot water tank filled with water. IF 120vac is not read at one connection of the element, then the T-stat is not allowing the 120vac to get to the element for one reason or another. Could be wiring burnt, bad connection, the control box on top of the water heater has a wire off or has gone bad. John
