EXHAUST BRAKES
Have tried to find old postings on exhaust brakes but keep coming up with zero results.
I have a 06 Dodge Ram 5.9 with a automatic transmission and am considering adding an exhaust brake to assist in stopping and towing. Just came back from a 2500 mile trip through Tenn. and Northern Ark. and finally decided I am tired of using the truck and trailer brakes as the only source for slowing down in hilly and mountainous conditions.
Not sure which Brand would be more suitable. I know that Jacob, PAC, or Banks are available and there may be more.
Would like input on what is the most efficient and easy to install and best bang for my dollar.
Thanks in advance for any information.

The one from the factory was the Jacob. All your dealer would need to do is enable the software after you install it. The ECU and transmission controller will know how to interact with it.

You will really love it once you decide on one and get it installed. Our truck came with it and on many steep hills it handles the truck and trailer without me having to brake at all.

I ordered mine from Banks when I ordered the monster exhaust and installed them myself. It went smoothly and wouldn't be without it.

I installed a US Gear electric exhaust brake because I didn't want to fund Mr. Banks anymore than I already have. It goes in the exhaust pipe between the turbo and muffler and runs off a controlled electric solenoid. I'm satisfied with the 35 psi of backpressure it develops for my Ford with a manual tranny, but cannot offer a comparison to one that more or less mounts right on the turbo and is pneumatically operated.

I had the BD Diesel exhaust brake on my 2001 Dodge which had an electric switch on the gearshift (standard 6 speed) and the brake itself was operated by vacuum. It mounted between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe. Worked great and sure saved on brakes.
My new 2012 Dodge (six speed auto) has a factory one of course, it is superior to the aftermarket one and makes all the difference in the world, especially when you live where I live and have to go up and down a lot of mountains to go pretty well anywhere from here. Would not be without one kind or another.

I installed the PacBrake PRXB on my 2007 5.9 automatic about 4 years ago. The unit has worked flawlessly! I like the fact that it is air operated which gives air for other things if wanted. Purchased on ebay and installed myself.

I've had the Banks exhaust brake for 11 years on my '95 Ford. Like it but cannot speak about the other brands. They all do what they're designed to do.

Besides the exhaust brake you may also have to get a modification or addition board for your transmission to force it to lock up in certain gears. I had manual six speed and dealer installed Jacobs exhaust brake on my 03 and 2012 Ram 3500 came stock with the exhaust brake.

I'm not sure about the OPs 2006, but the PacBrake PRXB for my 2007 had 2 wires that plugged into the ECU and it took care of control. Instructions were very clear about where to plug them and they had the correct pins installed. A piece of cake.

Would like to thank everybody for their input on exhaust brakes and came to the conclusion that they all work well and get the same results. I have ordered the Pacbrake because they had a 10 per cent off with free shipping and handling and also because it comes with a dual purpose air compressor and we have a two person inflatable kayak so I thought I could cheat a little on inflating it.
Looking forward to the installation and comparing the results.
