Bed saver

Just a general message to advise that Blue Ox no longer manufacturers the Bedsaver. I found this out by calling Blue Ox when seeking information on a Bed Saver for our new Hensley Trailer saver BD3 hitch.

They have a few in stock of limited models but once they are gone that is it. They did not have my model in stock. There are still some out there in stock at Rv suppliers. I managed to get one from Auto accessories. I called three different places before I found a supplier that had one. It arrived today.

I advised Blue Ox that it was a poor decision to stop the manufacturer of the bed Saver. I for one would not leave home without one and we had one on our Reese 16K hitch.

Thanks for the alert ... just to quell anxeity there are alternate devices besides Blue Ox that do the same job. Blue Ox was a good product, but many of us have gone with the simple shot pin like device that bolts to the back lip on the fifthwheel plate.

Always had a Bed Saver on my Husky Hitch. Don't really worry about one now on the B&W Patriot.

The Hensley BD3 looks fool proof but not mistake proof. Butch's 5th wheel latch kit will have to do. They are not made for many hitches including the Hensley hitches.

We've used butch's for several years now since Blue Ox couldn't figure out which of their models would fit my hitch. It's performed well.

We picked up a blue ox last year for our Curt. Have had one version or another for years. Other brand options out there. Unfortunately most folks are confident a bedsaver is not necessary as they do not intend to make a mistake. Little demand, no reason to make.

Have been pulling fifth wheels over 25 years. Likely hitched and unhitched thousands of times. Had three unintended mistakes. Last one was in 2014 the very first time I used the Curt. Wife had made me get a bedsaver immediatly, as the bed saver I had on my Reese would not fit the Curt. The "I told you so!" was well deserved. Bed saver saved me each time, not even a scratch.

I had one mistake in 10 years. It was a stupid mistake as most mistakes are. We did not intend to made a mistake but did anyhow. Bedsaver saved the day.

I have seen the other bed savers and they work if you remember to set them. My question is if you forget to check the hitch lock then you will not have the bed saver closed. It happens when your routine is interrupted or for some reason you are in a hurry. Please don't ask me how I know this. For a safety device to work it needs to be passive. Like air bags. Even your seat belt gives you an audible alarm if you fale to use them. JMHO

Not the bed savers we are talking about. Every one of our bed savers including the blue ox is passive. Nothing to set.

The bedsaver that a MOC member was going to purchase did not fit his Reese Pro Hitch so we still have it. It will be practically impossible to find one now as Blue Ox does not make them anymore. I found one for my Hensley BD3 after calling several internet RV sales places like Tweety" etc.

It will fit any hitch that uses the Bedsaver Model BXR 4100 16/18K hitch. If anyone need one we have one at a good price and it is like new . We are in Florida near Disneyworld.

Hi Rich,
How do I know what hitches it will fit, is there a website I can go to for a fitment guide? I have a Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs part number RP30084. Do you happen to know if it will fit my hitch?
Regards,
Jeff

Not exactly true. Butches solution must be set after you hitch.

As stated everyone of our bed savers, three brands over the years, have been passive. I would not have one that is not. That's my reason for having one. Passive protection.
