Try this when you are backing up, grab the bottom of the steering wheel then if you want the rear of the trailer to go left, turn the wheel left. It will keep you from starting off in the wrong direction. Also remember to make slight corrections in direction, not all the way to the right and then all the way to te left.
I just changed from a 2003 Chevy duelly to a 2013 Ford Duelly. They are both good TV's as is the Dodge. My new Ford has 400 HP and 800 FP of torque. It has a GCVW rating of 30500#. All the new trucks are being beefed up. Rethink the 4X4. Backing into a wet, grassy campsite that is ever so slightly uphill will make you wish you had the 4X4.
Come and join us in January at Charleston, SC. Several of us will be there from the 16th to the 21st.

Well, I've heard too many stories about the Ford Diesel engines. That may be history, but Ford has had a number of issues with their diesels over the past 10 years. While the current 6.7L seems to be okay, it doesn't have the HP or Torque of either GM or RAM. I could not find a Dually Chevy to test drive. Also their cab had not been updated for 2014 like their 1500. RAM has Cummins engines and I could test drive them. They also had more towing capability than the other 2. They also have all the bells and whistles for less money. It may have come down to the attitude of dealers that I like. Both my RAM and Montana dealers offered their best price up front and I didn't have to play games.
GM is in the midst of doing a changeover for the 2015, so duallies right now are rare.

In regards to the truck choices, Chevy, Ford and Ram. Several things pushed us toward the Ram.
You can argue all day about HP/TQ. All 3 brands are able to tow 5th wheels with no problems. 50 more HP or TQ is NOT going to make any difference in towing to the already high powered engines that they all have. Since I been working on cars all my life, the decision to go with Ram was simple for me. Just look under the hood on all 3 brands, that should give you the first clue. The Ford and Chevy engine compartments are stuffed to the gills with hoses, wires etc. Now look under the hood of the Ram, lots of room for easy maintenance even if you don't do the work yourself, it would cost less in the long run.

Plus on the Ford, they have to remove the whole cab section to preform certain tasks, and the Chevy has to have the fenders removed for certain tasks.

Over the years for the Ford and Chevy trucks various companies have made there engines, but now they are made in house and still have issues depending on the year that it was made. Todays engines are to new to determined how good the quality is yet.

The Cummings diesel have a great reputation over the years.

This is just my opinion and my findings and forum readings and talking to techs that drew my decision to the Ram. I'm sure everyone else that bought a Ram, Ford or Chevy has there reasons for there selection, this was mine and HOPE this does not turn into a heated debate.

You can not do wrong with buying any of the big three, just buy what you can afford, features and comfort level and you'll be very happy.

Okay, here's another newbee question. Are there any real differences in 5W hitches? I have the RAM factory installed fifth wheel prep package, so I will have to get a Reese 30154 adapter that fits in the RAM bed. At that point Reese would tell you to use their 16K, or 20K hitches. Any reason not to do that? I think once I have the adapter, I can use a number of different hitches.

I think the Ram bed setup is fairly new. Try calling the manufactures or visiting their websites to see what they offer. I don't think you can go wrong with any hitch, but some do have better features than others, like 4 axis movement and such. I purchased a Pullrite, because at the time they made the mounting brackets that go under the bed and mount to the frame without welding or drilling any holes in the frame. I do not have the factory prep package that started in 2013 models, so I'd look closely as to who has what.

Checkout this link and you might want to make it one of your favorites for the Dodge Cummins forum. There showing a B&W hitch for your setup.

I can tell the fifth wheel prep kit is really new because they don't have any hitches that directly use the hole pattern that RAM created. It looks like the Reese 30154 adapter attaches to the prep kit holes, and apparently the hitch holes in the adapter kit are some defacto standard. At the link below you can see the features, but the important ones are:

Use with RAM OEM under-bed rail kit
The robust Reese adapter will not touch or scratch the truck bed
Works with any 15K, 16K, or 20K standard fifth wheel hitch
Uses the fast and secure Reese® patented latching system

No matter what, I wouldn't go with any hitch less than 20K

Michelle &Ann no less than a 20K????? what are you towing a Mobile Suites or a New Horizons now??? I've been using a Valley 16k hitch for a long time and it has never let me down My 3402rl weighs in at 14.5K and pin of 2,800 Loaded to the gills at the most you would get a 18k for a 3402rl,but if you got the cash and going overkill a 20k would do for sure but you do not "have" to have a 20K

Well when we got our Montana the Dealer was going to install a 16K, but I wanted some extra cap so requested an 18K, they didn't have one but offered the 20K as part of the deal. Yes it was slight over kill for a 2955RL, but very glad we went the 20K route as we're pushing 17K on our SOB with 4K of pin.

Congrats on the new Monty. I would take lots of notes for the PDI and better yet, videotape it. There is way too much to remember otherwise.

I would also get rid of the Marathon tires if they are on the unit.
