How are the winter Texans doing?
Was going camping this weekend but this ice storm in Abilene has kept us home. Then though of the snow birds that are enjoying the hospitality of this great Texas Republic and how they're doing in the out-of-the-ordinary cold we're having and are there any stories to tell?
I'd be certainly hesitant to pull a rig on the roads today!!!

This winter Texan enjoyed a balmy 70 degrees all day, but that changed about 9PM when the front pushed through dropping the temp about 15 degrees the first hour. I am also a summer Texan that has to put up with the heat and humidity.

Here in Cental Texas it is getting colder and colder. 36F right now and temps are dropping tonight with an ice storm on the way. Here is hoping that the temperatures warm up enough for me to get to Galveston by next Saturday to go on my cruise. What is great about the state of Texas... wait a day and the temps will change.

We're sitting in a park in the Dallas area. We are headed to Tucson - wanted to leave today actually - but this ice storm has us grounded for a few days. Hopefully the weather Tuesday will allow us to leave!

It is now 07:30 or so in McAllen, Tx. and the temp has dropped from mid 60's at 6 am to 50 deg right now. It is supposed to go into the 30's for the next couple of days. Oh well, still warmer than Ontario Canada.

We were staying in the Galveston area over the weekend and left for home in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon. We watched the weather drop from comfortable temperatures in the 60s to the 30s by the time we got home. We are now under a winter storm warning for the next couple of days.

Not only a winter storm warning here in San Antonio, but with moisture coming in tonight, they are saying the roads will most likely have a sheet of ice on them and very dangerous - lots of accidents already in the Hill county on the highway - be very careful if you are traveling or wait a few days!

We are at Sam Rayburn reservoir in east central Texas. This morning it was 41 degrees and raining. It is now 37 degrees at 3:30 pm. To get down to 28 degrees tonight. Still warmer than Kansas City.
Will start to warm up in two to three days.
Have a great day.

It is 32 @4p.m. in Bastrop and precip is icing. The wind is blowing which isn't helping. They forecast heavier rain as the evening progresses. Heaters and furnace are going and hope we keep electricity!! How long do the batteries last to keep the furnace running?
Even sunny CA is in the deep freeze...Florida is looking better all the time!!

Well, it caught up with us, the Arctic blast finally reached us here at the tip of Texas, my wind spinner is going 45 miles an hour, Palm trees swaying, lawn chairs blowing across the way, and 50 degrees. We had drizzle this morning. I can see the bay from here, and it's in the white caps mode. Went to Wal*Mart and got the fixin's for Gumbo, will have that tomorrow.
Like Dick said, better than K.C.

Well we were Winter Texans until 1 Jan 07. A very good friend of ours lives in Sierra Vista, Arizona has Lung Cancer and he isn't doing any more treatments. I wanted to see him and hug his neck he is very special to us. So we left Mission Tx. and haven't found any warm weather yet. We are now in Casa Grande Arizona, and this morning it was 19 degrees. So we are in search of warmer weather.. Will be going on to Cal. in Feb, and DW has booked a flight to Hawaii. If its cold there, I know there is a conspiracy. Stay warm were ever you are. GBY...

We're sitting here in Cut and Shoot, and it's 32 degrees..still better than Wisconsin! I know it won't last long. Heading for Kerrville, then South Padre from there.

Enjoy Kerrville - we have a number of good friends and enjoy staying at the Guadalupe River RV Park. Don't know when you are leaving but the roads between San Antonio and Kerrville are being shut down because of ice. Be careful.

Myrna-
Glad this was not last weekend. You know you wouldn't be happy in Florida. As far as the batteries, depends on how hard the furnace is running. My first time without 120 volts, the battery lasted about 8 hours, hope you don't lose power. We are expecting freezing rain here tonight and tomorrow.

Ozz and Dick what do you mean "it's better than KC" Today it is sunshine and blue sky with the temp of +1. How much better could it get?

Charlie... made it through the night. A few good gusts though. We had a frozen water line this morning, but Bob has it going. It froze in the filter. Even though the temp is 30 degrees, the wind chill is 17. They say the worst is to come today and boy we feel the cold spots (like the desk area slide out). I-35 is a mess this morning... a lot of it is closed with semis jack knifing.
Everyone please be careful..stay off the highways for another day. Hopefully we will see better temps tomorrow.
Just got word that I 10 west of San Antonio is closed due to heavy snow.

Where's the rope. LOL Part of the reason that we stayed in Texas was the warm weather. For the most part that has been the case. I don't care for it when it is warmer in the state that I grew up (Michigan) than here.
