Hi Folks;

Performance Trailer Braking will be attending our rally in June. They will be giving a presentation and doing installs. They have a discounted price for the labor and materials. I don't have the exact date(s) yet.

6k tandem axle - $1700 (includes a $100 rally discount)
7k tandem axle - $2000 (includes a $100 rally discount)
6k triple axle - $2225 (includes a $100 rally discount)
7k triple axle - $2650 (includes a $100 rally discount)

LABOR: $900 FOR TANDEM
$1100 FOR TRIPLE

Upon further discussion with Performance Trailer Brakes, their plan is to attend the rally (all week) to make a presentation and answer questions. Actual installations will will be scheduled but not performed during the rally (they come to you).

Are they using Timken bearings or another quality brand other than the Chinese bearings like Dexter uses?

A little confusion here. According to Performance, two of their folks will be in attendance. One WILL be doing installations.

If you are interested in an installation while at the rally. Performance asked that you contact them directly at least five to six weeks prior to the rally so parts can be shipped, the installation scheduled, and invoicing done. Labor is paid for at the show to the installer.

Another discussion with Performance Trailer Brakes has confirmed the above. They will make a presentation at the rally, but installations will be scheduled individually. If you are interested in the disc brake conversion, contact Kelly at Performance to make arrangements. She will take your order, ship parts, and schedule the installation; more than likely not at the rally, but talk to her.

I'm not sure. Contact Performance Trailer Braking and they can answer questions and set the install up if you decide to go forward. When I upgraded to disc brakes, I ordered the hubs with 9/16 studs and 9/16 lug nuts; my understanding is that is the difference between 7k (1/2" studs) and 8k (9/16" studs) axles.

Scott, doesn't the change to 9/16 studs necessitate a change of wheels, or at least precision (machine shop) drilling of your existing wheels?

No, the holes in the wheels (at least mine) can take 9/16 studs. The lug nuts are what center the wheels; new ones came with the kit.

I'm signed up to get our rig upgraded to disks. I questioned Kelly when I saw the disks will have 9/16" studs, and she said most of our wheels can take up to 5/8" studs. I also upgraded to Timken bearings for our install. I also noticed that the inner bearings are the same as used with the drums, but the outer bearings are different. She said they use the 7,000/8,000 lb disks so the outer bearing is larger than with the 7,000 lb only disks, so this is also an excellent feature of this install. The new lug nuts they provide are solid chromed steel instead of a plain steel lug nut with a flimsy shell like what comes on our rigs.

If this is anything like Mor-Ryde they use the 8k rotors with 9/16 studs whether you use the 7k or 8k axles.

They are using the Dexter parts, K71-908-00 Disc brake end kits, and the Dexter Brakerite 1500 psi device.

I'm going to show my lack of knowledge here.... I'm sure my hubby would understand all this... we have a 2014 3725RL Montana. Is this something we need to have done? We haven't had any issues but also haven't had to do anything to them that I know of....

Not something that Is absolutely needed, but, if you would like to have much better braking ability from your rig, and much better reliability, then yes, do it. I was on the fence about having it done until a couple months ago, while servicing the bearings, discovered a drum brake assembly totally failed, and with no indication that there was a problem, and that was the deciding factor to finally ditch the drums and have the rig upgraded to discs, which should really be standard on these rigs.
