Conversion to Ventless Propane Heater

Hi,

We're full timers in our '07 3400RL Monty parked in Salome, AZ, and our neighbors share the Sep/Oct '09 Escapees magazine with us. We became intrigued with the article on "Vent free Propane Heaters", and are considering converting the existing fireplace to one of the ventless propane heaters.

My question is to anyone who has explored or accomplished this converation. If you could share your thought with us we would appreciate it.

I have not converted but my son had a ventless propane heater in his appartment. The only drawback that I found was the moisture that it created. When he converted to baseboard hotwater the moisture disappeared. Check this out before you convert.

A friend of ours in Az aslo uses a portable ventless propane heater. Moisture in the trailer is a major problem and you need to keep a window partly open to let in fresh air and to loose some of the moisture. After seeing that we bought a couple of small electric heaters.

For the first few years of full timing we used a catalytic heater. However it wasn't big enough to give us enough heat in cold weather. So we purchased a stand-alone Blue Flame propane heater. It's capacity is 20,000 BTUs which really gives us comfort. We don't have a fireplace so the heater is connected to a quick disconnect with a 10-foot flexible propane hose which allows us to place the heater wherever we want to. The heater is thermostatically controlled with an automatic fan for circulating the warm air.

This system has worked for us for the past four years without any problems.

We have a 05 3400rl.
We got a 15000 3 panel ProCom heater with stand. I tapped into the propane line under the cupboard by the hot water tank and put on a 10' flexable rubber propane hose and run it out thru the bottom of the cupboard. I added a quick connect to hose and heater so that it can be disconnected and stored when not in use. The hose is pushed back into the cupboard area out of site. The reason for the 10' hose is that I can move the heater around.
The moisture can be a problem so it is good to have a window open, it helps but not 100%
