Easily moving the recliners

Moving the recliners was a major problem for me and I almost traded my unit because of it but the problem was solved. The recliners have a 24 inch round base. I cut 2 - 24 inch circles out of 3/4 inch plywood and bolted them to the bottom of the base. I then screwed carpet sliders to the plywood base and I can now slide the chairs with ease. Took me a while to figure it out but glad I did (I tried rollers but the recliners kept falling over). I hope this idea can help someone else.

Sounds like a good idea. I have a question though. Our chairs will move a little while going down the road even though they are strapped down. They always seen to slide back against the back curtains. Now that yours slide even easier do they move even more while bouncing down the road. I would like to do something other than manhandling them like I do now.

When I strap them down they are back to back. If they do move it isn't much. If they are in the way of the slides they will push the recliners out of the way by riding along the arms. If your are worried about the window you can use small shimms between the base and the back wall.

Plastic discs that you can put under legs of furniture to move it easily. They can be had at Lowes or Home Depot.

Got mine at WalMart.

I did that with mine and it sure makes a difference in moving them to put the slide in.

We did the same, got the idea I think from MrsCountryGuy. DW found 24" round cut plywood circles at a home improvement store. I too bolted them to the frame of the chairs and attached small carpet sliders. Works great even during travel. When we traded in our rig, I pulled them off the old chairs and reinstalled them on the new ones.

Going to cut out the plywood this weekend. Why hadn't I thought of this. Did you paint them or put edging on? My DW is a nut for things being finished. I always like to have a few things that I am not quite finished so I can "Get to them" when a less agreeable chore is suggested by the "Boss".

I painted the plywood black. Just the top and sides, you don't see the bottom plus i didn't want to take a chance and scuff the carpet with the black paint.

Great point about not painting the bottom of the plywood. I would never had considered that. Now, the biggest decision. What color to paint the plywood that DW will like. I know, I will let her pick the color, then I will only have to paint the plywood once.

Great idea. I put wheels on mine, it makes the chair just a tad unstable, I like your idea much better.
