Boon-docking - Mojave National Preserve

We are heading out in June for a trip East. Has anybody camped in the Mojave National Preserve. Want to hang out and just enjoy the desert for a couple of days. They say there is open camping, sounds like areas along side the access roads.
Any help would be nice.
