Good test

In a former post I mentioned cleaning and lubricating my slide rails. Today I took the opportunity to put them to the test. Smooooth! Why didn't I do this earlier? Sometimes I just can't figure why I don't snap to things more quickly. Wonder what else I am overlooking?

What exactly did you do, Stiles? Did you use WD-40 to strip it? I guess first I should ask whether you stripped off the old slip-plate or maybe you removed the grease and replaced it with slip-plate?

On mine, it initially had slip-plate installed. I wasn't convinced so stripped it and went with white lithium grease. What a mess that was, collecting dirt, twigs, etc. So I stripped that and went with slip-plate again and have not regretted it.

With solvent I removed grime and build up, then used lithium grease. Not hard to do. Just have to do it.

I was under the impression that a "dry lube" was to be used to keep road build up/grime from accumulating. How often will the lithium have to be removed and replaced?

I have heard of slip-plate for the "Super Glide" hitches. Is the "Slip-Plate" you speak of the dry lube like what CW sells or something different? Like this: Dry Lube.

Jack, my mind was wandering again and I was thinking superglide when I read Stiles' post. Slip Plate is a teflon-based dry lube that does not pick up dirt. For that reason I sometimes uses it on our slide mechanism, too. However, awhile back I bought some SprayOn brand dry lube that passes the "dirt no-stick" test and used it the other day to lube our slide rails on the Montana.

Jack, the Keystone Service Center once showed us how our CW slide lube, a dry lube, was not good because it picks up and holds dirt. They sprayed some cardboard and threw dirt on it. It stuck. The sprayed the other side with their TFE 101 lube and it did not stick. It doesn't stick to Slip Plate nor to this SprayOn dry lube, either. That was a few years ago so what CW carries now might be better. It's easy enough to test.

Thanks for the reply Steve. What CW sells, "Protect All", I think, on the label says something about letting it dry after you spray it on. I will read the label again before I buy more. If that isn't the case I will be looking for and using TFE 101 or some other dry lube. I will also try the "spray on cardboard and throw dirt test". I'll be interested to see what happens and will let you know.
