Place to park in S.F area? - Montana Owners Club

Looking to head to S.F area for 4-5 days then maybe head for Sacramento area for 2-3 days. I would also like to find spots to make a few day trips to wine country and Monterey area. If I could get a convenient spot to make days trips to some of these would nice. This way I wouldn't have to haul trailer around. Any ideas for good clean CG would be appreciated.

There is only 1 RV park in SF and that is in Pacifica. Nice park, concrete but it is on the ocean. Very central to SF stuff and the rail system to all of downtown is located in Daly city, Just a short drive with free parking. If you are considering wine country you might want to stay out in that area where your choices are greater and go into city from that side. There are some nice parks along the russian river out by Gurneville area. Also if you are considering Monterey area look into Watsonville and Gilroy area. The thing about the city is you can do alot in one day trip. Good luck. Teresa

If you are down in the Gilroy - Monterey area there is a park called Betabel just south of Gilroy. Nice place we stayed there this last spring for three nights.

Further south in Paso Robles there is the Wine Country RV Park, very nice but sort of pricy.

If you go to the Mother Lode are of Calif. down by Jackson there is a nice park in Plymouth called I think 49er Village. I also understand the indian casino in Jackson is very nice.

We stayed here 3 years ago. The spaces are somewhat tight but the park is only 5 minutes from the wharf. Several years ago we stayed at the park in Pacifica, as mentioned above it is just a short drive to the BART transit. We liked riding this into the city but had a TERRIBLE time finding parking.

If you want to visit the Gold Country, there is a KOA in Placerville on HWY 50, 40 miles from Sacramento. Coloma is nearby. Visit Sutters Mill where the gold rush started. There are really good winerys in the area also, Boeger being one of the better ones.

There is a KOA in Petaluma that is much nicer than Pacifica - we've stayed in both long term. The Petaluma Park has tour buses available for SF and also wine country. Parks in Napa area are very scarce. Our oldest daughter lives in Benicia and we have a hard time visiting with the Monty. Also if you are in Petaluma you can take the ferry into SF. I did that many times to go to meetings, etc. It lands right at the wharf. We enjoyed the tour bus because you learn a lot of the guide. They stopped at the GG bridge and lunch was at the wharf.

Hmmm, My post is not there. I must have hit the wrong button.

As Parrothead mentioned I have stayed at the Petaluma KOA and is a couple of cities north of SF and close to the wine country, but quite a ways from Monterey, plus you'll have to drive throught SF to get there.

I had not stayed at these and understand they might be quite cramped but as mentioned above there is the San Francisco RV Resort or the Candlestick RV Park. I believe both of them provide shuttle service to SF. Not only is parking difficult in SF, but parking a TV can add to the challenge. Getting to the SF main areas and using the cable cars, or buses can get you around. The east area of the city of SF has the best stuff, but the hardest parking and steepest hills (these are a sight to see). I have taken my long bed F-250 down Lombard St, but don't forget to swing wide!

To stay some place more central, the KOAs south of SF (in Santa Cruz?) might be too far from the wine country but they are excellent. There are numerous other RV Parks in between, but be careful of their condition and lack of hookups (unless these are not a concern). I can email a list of some of these if you want.

Those areas are some of my favorites in California - Monterey, Carmel, Highway 1, SF and the wine country (I recommend Sterling winery in Calistoga).

Ummm, someone mentioned Gilroy.... I love the smell of Garlic in the morning... and the afternoon.... and the evening.... especially at harvest time.

Jim & Vickie, Like that old vine zin do you? I really like Bogel wines. We belong to their wine club. Costco carries the Old Vine Zin for 7.99 a bottle in case lots. This is less than I can buy it for at the winery even though I belong to the wine club.

You do not have to drive through SF to get to Petaluma. There are several other routes. I worked in this area for 4 or 5 years. Candlestick RV Park is not in a good area.

Close to San Franciso at Half Moon Bay off Hwy 1 Pelican Point. You Can do a day trip to San Franciso to the North. Also a day trip to Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay south on Hwy l. Very nice walking trails on the ocean at Pelican Point. Becky is the manager.

Thanks for all the feed back on SF area. This will be our next trip out of Wa. We just returned home from 7 days on Oregon coast and Grants pass area. Weather was perfect and no trouble with trailer. I was also thinking about how nice it would be to have a main topic on this forum about camping sites in the different states. That way we could draw on all the wealth of info that all the full timers have on this subject. It could be a simple forum with a rating of 1-10 for general experience and a little info on likes or dislikes. I might contact the webmaster on this subject. Simonsrf I did use the Rv Park review site to start my research but thought this group might give me a little more personal feed back.
