Tire Pressure-TV

TV is a Dodge 2500, Diesel, Short bed. 5 speed standard. Run Micheln LTX A/S,
LT245/75R16 LRE. Purchased at Costco. They put 50# front, 80# rear. Have been running this way for several years. Went to Wheel Works for front end aligement. Everything was O.K. Just picked up rig for Quartzsite, AZ rally. Checked all tires TV had 80# front and rear. Had to be done by Wheel Works. Also rotate tires every 10K. Can you MOC expects recommend tire pressure and why. I expect to learn a lot from MOC at the rally.
Thanks Lou

Correction on my post. Costco put 50# front, 70# rear, not 80#

Costco is careful to set the pressure to what the manufacturer recommends. I think what wheel works did was to put in the maximum pressure that is listed on the sidewall of the tire.

There has been a lot of commentary about what pressure people use, but my take is that you should stick with what the mfr recommends. Normally, you'd expect the load on the front of the vehicle to be less than on the rear when the fiver is connected, so the front pressure should be less (pressure is based on tire load). Putting 80# in the front will adversely affect the handling. Leaving the pressure at 70# or 80# in the rear will make for a stiff ride when the truck is unloaded, but means you won't be jumping in and out to change the pressure whenever you connect or disconnect the Montana.

But, definitely lower the front pressure to what is recommended (on the driver door frame label), which I would expect to be 50#.

Bob pretty well hit the nail on the head, the door post has a label stating recommended psi.

We also go by the label. Our Silverado has tire pressure monitor built in and gives us an email via onstar once a month.

I go by the door label when towing, 55# front & 80# rear, because I'm at or near the max.load.
When driving solo and nothing in the bed of the TV, I run 55# and 55#, makes the truck ride better and told by my tire guy that I wll get more even tire wear.

My previous TV was a 2000 Dodge 2500. There was a sheet with the manual in the golve box that showed recommended tire pressures. Based on it I ran 55 psi front and 70 psi in the rear.

Just 'cause I am perverse, I run 60# front and rear empty, bump the rears up to 80# loaded. Somewhere along the line my Grandfather told me to run 'em a little stiff, and get better mileage. Dunno if it's true, but can still hear him in my head saying that......along with "don't slam the door".
