Soon to Leave for Top Sail St. Park

We will be leaving Indy 2/15 for Top Sail St. Park, Destin, Fl. We sure wish we were closer to retirement, 18 months or maybe sooner. We will be stopping for the night in Pelham, Al, Birmingham South RV and onto Top Sai, arriving on 2/16.

If anyone will be in the area, stop in!

Hey! We may be in that area the middle of February. How long will you be there?

Top Sail is a first rate RV park. Converted from a commercial park into a Florida State Park. Camping is not right on the beach front but there are shuttles every few minutes to the beach. Different from any other Florida state park (all of which we have found to be excellent) because it still has the feel of an RV resort.

Don't you just love it when someone just rubs it right in your face. We can't get out of town till last part of April to go to TopSail.
Padre - we are going to split out time this year between TopSail and St Andrews. Boy on the Satelite map, St Andrews looks like an interesting place. At least this year they are allowing pets. That is what has kept us from going there already. Besides our Bichon is the CEO and where she goes we go.

Pam, Ozz,

We will be at Top Sail from 2/16 thru 2/24. There will be three in our group, a Monty, a Select-Suite, and a Rockwood TT.

As others have already mentioned, TS once was a private RV resort sold to the State. As we were told, the original owner opened an RV resort in Panama City, (that is unconfirmed).
TS is very nice. All sites are level concrete pads, large private/semi-private lots, full hook-up with catv.

The campground is approx. 1/4 mile from the beach, as the crow flies, 1/2 mile when you take the paved road. It makes for a great walk, also, the wind is knocked down before it gets to the C.G.

I will attempt to locate a few pictures, and since I am fairly new to this forum, when I learn how to post pictures, they will be there or somewhere!

IndyRunner, we have been going to St. Andrews State Park for almost 45 years (since 1962), first as tent campers and now, for the last few years, as fifth-wheel residents. It is still one of our favorite spots. Last year we stopped by Top Sail just for a night before our week long reservation at St. Andrews. Both were top notch experiences.

One other favorite over these years has been Ft. Pickens across from Pensacola. For many years it was "Ft. Pickens State Park", but more recently it has been made a part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore but still called "Ft. Pickens Camping Area". It was demolished by hurricane Ivan a couple of years ago and, to my knowledge, has never re-opened for camping. We feel a real personal loss about this and hope for it to re-open (maybe this Spring?) One of the first Montanas we ever saw was in the Ft. Pickens camp loop "A". We got the fever!

I'm inclined to call this stretch of snow white sand and emerald green water from Gulf Shores to Panama City "The Texas Rivera" because Pensacola is closer to Houston than it is to Miami. Floridians, please take kindly to this. It is intended as a high compliment.

David and Shirley, that is not playing fair posting those pictures like that. Drooool Droool, I have sat at the swimming pool many a day and admired campers parked in that very same area even though we prefer the 100's. One of these trips that site you are in is going to be on our list.
