Tire Pressure Monitors

Getting ready to take the plunge for a Tire Monitorin System this year. There are at least three that I know of - Pressure Pro, Hopkins and TST. Are any of them better or worse than the others. I have TPMS in the truck, so the TST would be $259 on line for the for sensor system. I await the verdict.

Very nice referral Hookman. $225 for the monitor, base and four sensors and another $160 for four more sensors. $385 plus tax out the door and it monitors pressure and temperature.

Ron,
I had the Presser Pro and have the TST. I like the TST display better. Anything is better than nothing. TST does have a better antenna system even though I do not have to use the longer reach antenna. It also comes with both pigtail power and cigarette lighter power connection. If you go with TST try to get the two year warranty.
Also include your spare tires (truck and trailer) when you count them for you monitor system.

Good point, John. Did you go through Camping World or straight to TST?

Don -

Do you know if Hawkshead ships to the U.S.? I assume that price is Canadian.

Good catch Rames. I didn't notice the domain of "ca". However, I checked their website and they are located at the US/Canada border in Abbottsford on the Canada side and Sumas, Washington on the U.S. side. I think they have both countries covered but then I wonder if the price is in U.S. or Cdn.

I looked up the TPS and there are several differant types out there, I dont like the idea of a screw on sensor on the stim I do like the ones that attcah to the inside of the wheel with a large clamp thos would not grow legs and dissapear on you.

Mine are locked on with a lock nut. To remove them without undoing the lock nut will ruin the sensor so it wouldn't do any good for anyone if they took it. McFall's who sell the Pressure Pro System don't lock their sensors on and they have not lost any. I guess there's a first time however.

The TST monitors need a special tool to remove them from the stems. They just spin if you try to remove them without it. I ordered the system direct from TST.

I went direct with TST but have heard Camping World is matching them. Call both and get the best price if you are going that way.

If you use any of the ones that screw onto the valve stem I STRONGLY recommend changing your valve stem to the high pressure all steel bold down model. The rubber ones will fail quickly. I know from my Pressure Pro days.

Camping World has the TST for $359. The kit has everything you need for 6 tires. An extra set of sensors will cost you $89. Both prices are for club membership. I just happened to be in CW and asked. The price could not be beat, and they were "right there."

As mentioned, a special tool is included (2 ea) for installation and removal. However, if you are not concerned with theft you can Gorilla Superglue the swivel to the metal. Then you can twist it off and on by hand. It does make for a much easier installation. You can talk to Dan at TST and the glue will not void the warranty.

I presently do not have them installed on my SOB because I recently had new metal valve stems put on, but I did for a while put them on the TOAD and the monitor picked up the signal with no problem 60 feet away, even sitting here in the stick house.

Here is a site with the 6 sensor model for $299. Manufacturer will match any price they say. The $299 deal does require $10 shipping.
TST price i am hoping to place order here in the next couple of days.

John you stated the use of steel valve stims is there a reason for this? are they to heavy when the wheel is spinning centrifical force, and bending the rubber stim.

Don,
Yes the knob on the end of the valve stem flexes the rubber and it eventually cracks.
Here is a link to the type I used. Note: the nut is inside because of the aluminum rims design.

I paid $323.99 at Camping World about two weeks ago. That was after I told the manager I had to think about the $359 asking price. He then remembered that he had just one discount coupon left. Funny how that works.

I think I'll go with the TST and pick them up at a Camping World since I have the President's Club card. Thanks for lots of info. I believe my Big Sky came with the steel valve stems.

I picked up the Hawkshead brand with a total of 5 sensors for 254.00 + tx. I got it yesterday at the York Pa RV show.
The vendor was Best RV Stuff.
The owners name is Don Sweger and his phone # is 877 577 8901.
