Bridge clearances

I'm looking for some accurate maps or otherwise for bridge clearances. Truck routes don't cut it! A pdf doc with posted bridge clearances would be ideal! That way I can plan my routes without being routed to areas I don't want to go. Any suggestions?

Yes I drove under a low bridg and suffered the outcome. I got the Garmin 660 RV GPS and feel much safer. Also get the Truckers Path App works great.

I check my planned route against the GoodSam online Trip Planner, kept me from a route that was for Autos only, no trucks or RVs, also will alert me to low clearance issues on my route.

Garmin 660RV

Bought this Garmin for our summer trip to Arkansas and Memphis and I loved it. It kept us off one of the interstates in Memphis due to low bridges. I also bought a national data base from lowclearances.com but I have not yet loaded them on the garmin (being somewhat technologically challenged) but it’s on the to do list.

Truckers atlas has bridge clearances listed by each state.

We use the same truckers atlas that Mike117 uses and have had no problems when planning our routes of travel. We purchased the laminated version so it does not tear or if we spill something on it, it doesn't ruin the maps.

I used a trucker's atlas while trucking for 20 years and for another 8 years since retiring. I use a standard up to date Garmin along with it.

Just ordered the truckers atlas, although I use GPS I find that a good old fashioned map still has its place! When GPS signal is lost or something else happens you'll be glad you have it! I forgot about the good sam app, I'll use that too!

I find "Rand McNally 2019 Deluxe Motor Carriers' Road Atlas", an Amazon. Is this what you guys are referring to as the "truckers atlas"?

If you check sometimes Amazon will have the good laminated ones a couple of years old (still new) at a very good savings and still just as good as current date.

I just checked Amazon and they have 2017 version of the good laminated one for $35.91 and this old retired trucker assures you it is as good as any later versions.

I have "low clearances" installed on my phone (use Google maps). It works IF you preview your route. It does not change your route based on low clearances or warn you.

I am shopping for a Garmin GPS unit that will do this. Looking at the 780LMT-S or 770LMT-S.

Of course, no matter what you use, there is no substitute for driver and passenger vigilance. We take a close look at trees. I have found myself in a situation where I was not sure of the clearance; not posted and looked real low. I simply stopped and got out to verify while everyone behind me got upset; too bad. if I could not have continued (I did) I would have sat there until the police cleared the road behind me so I could back up.

If you have a few minutes, take a look at this; note all the warning signs and lights:

Scott,

I agree with your comment on trees and getting out to look. Trees scare me more than bridges as bridges tend to be marked well. The other hazard can be gas station awnings.

the last trailer I had was a pull behind and one back road in Fl thought I was going to hit trees, stopped a few times for traffic and went down the center of the road, that was a little unnerving!

Yep, sometimes you have to take your half out of the middle.
