Wow---"Sticker Shock"...!

Filled up with Diesel last week and thought $2.59 was bad. Drove by the "pit stop" last night on the way home & its now $2.85 in San Marcos, CA. Heard on the radio that there was a "refinery fire" in LA someplace and expect #2 Diesel in So. Cal, AZ & Southern NV to hit 3 bucks in a week. Time to travel to TJ and get some PEMEX diesel for $1.75---sure wish I had my Transfer flow installed---would save a hundred bucks + per fill-up...!

Something else. And it is the least refined of all they offer, plus dirtier. Yet more expensive. So I guess cheaper to produce means more expensive. Sure doesn't give much credence to supply and demand nor marketing strategy that costs drive price.

We need Generic Diesel like Generic Rx....! Wait till next year in CA when we have to burn Ultra Low Sulpher----one more reason to jack the price up 2 bits a gallon or more...!

If this "gas" price situation is due to low supply and high demand where are the gas lines like we had in the '70s? This is all a planned shortage to rip us off! Can't understand why we don't go to biodiesel and ethanol. We can grow our own "gas" here in the good all USA. Also, if we are so short of oil, why is every drop of Alaskian oll going to Japan instead of being used here at home. Therefore, we have to import Arab oil. If we didn't have to import their oil they would not have so many $s to spend on terrorism. But with two oil men running show what do you expect. After all the three major companies all declared record net profits last year!

T'ain't just the "D", the gas is bad too, I paid $2.42 for 87 octane just a hour ago. By the way, the "D" was a wee bit cheaper at this particular station. I know 2.42 is low compared to say, CA. But, that is kinda high here.

SAndreasen,

You make good points, also, why no screaming about conserving, car pools, lowering the speed limit, we did all that stuff back in the 70's. I sure don't get it.

Price went up a dollar a barrel the other day less than 6 hours after the death of that Saudi King.

Something is rotten somewhere?????? This keeps up we will have to sell the stick house just to afford the gas/"D" to run these trucks down the road. Cripes!

Maybe, I just getting to old. Heard on the radio the other day that you know that you are getting old when you can remember when you paid as much for a gallon of gas that we pay now for a postage stamp! HA, I can remember when gas was 15.9 cents a gallon! About conservation, we put a new 97% effiencent furnance to save $$. Well, because we didn't use as much natural gas, the gas company is now raising our rates! They are going to get their (my) $ even if they change me for not using any!

I think the high fuel cost is hurting everywhere. We were in the outer banks in July, The peak vacation season. We had made reservations at Camp Hatteras in Jan of 05 because they are normally booked solid for the summer months yet we had no problem coming in a day early and the folks next to us had no problem staying a couple of days longer. There were empty slots all during the week and the sound side was only 50% full. The KOA next door also had vacancies as did EVERY campground on the banks.(We checked them out, there are not that many) Also there were vacancies up and down the banks. We stopped in at the rental agencies and they said many vacancies and this is in the peak season. We saw only 1 no vacancy sign at hotels and motels.
One of the rental agencies said that the folks from Ind, Il, Mich, Ohio, Pa and NY were just not showing up this year..His call was the high cost of fuel. Tell you what..although we have a new truck we are getting the same MPG that we got on the old one.Traveled just about the same distance this year and our fuel bill is double this year. We grumbled but that has got to cause a lot of folks to cut back. Things are not good....

Well it's time to throw the diesel in the trash and buy a gasser, it's .30 cents per gal cheaper for regular to a gal of diesel.

Correction it's now .50 per gal higer than regular

Good Idea, TT. Buy a gasser, pay $2.359 for gas, get 9MPG= $.26 per mile fuel. I'll pay $2.499 for diesel, get 12.5 MPG for a cost of $.20 per mile. Plus have the diesel torque.

It's not the miles per gal the motor gets it's the PRICE per gal that we have to pay,,Gas or diesel.Makes no difference what motor you are running it is expensive to run them these days. I'm running a gasser at 2.339 and my neighbor is running a diesel at 2.439..I am not happy and neither is he.

I actually had quite a shock as I was coming down Highway 78 outside of Athens, Georgia today. The BP station closest to us had diesel cheaper than regular unleaded. Regular was $2.329 and diesel was 2.299. As I told Marsha, it won’t be TOO long before they realize their mistake!

Here in the Los Angeles area we are getting stabbed on fuel prices. We have several refineries in the South Bay area but pay more for fuel than many other places. Diesel here ranges from $2.79 to $2.95 per gallon. Can't wait til we move to Arizona were it costs less even though they have to truck it in.

Bill, Diesel in Orange county is $3.02 today, can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. I guess I did something right when I changed from diesel to gas in 2002.

Columbia Falls, MT -- 2.449 for diesel day before yesterday, 2.539 yesterday.

So why is there no general uprising about the prices? Is anyone writing their congresspersons?

Comparing my diesel mileage with my V10 gasser mileage, I'd have to buy gasoline at 1.814/gallon to equate to the cost of my diesel at 2.539/gallon.

Only a penny difference in our part of Texas between gasoline and diesel and diesel is cheaper as of yesterday.

Steve, maybe addressing Washington reps is the answer, but they need to look at the Wall Street traders, smells of another Enron??????
