Nice job, Jackel. I didn't like those doors slamming open and shut, either, but I even more disliked them slamming me in the backside. My solution was very similar to yours except I never saw a 90 degree latch. Mine is the same latch used for the main entry door. Yours is prettier.

I used a straight latch and a little heat from a heat gun. It works perfectly.

If I may add one thing. I found when those doors with the longer latches are propped open in gusty winds, sometimes they unlatch themselves. I drilled a small vertical hole through the top side of the female side of the latch. When it's windy I latch the door, then put a pin, fashioned from an S hook, into the hole, thus making it impossible for them to unlatch.
In this picture you can also see part of where the door frame was bent when this door was ripped from its hinge when we were trying to get out of the ice and snow in Independence, MO back on 12/29. I think I can straighten this frame to be not quite so obvious, soon as I get a chance.

Steve,I think the problem is the brackets should have been mounted vertical not horizontal.Take a look at the OP's picture.
Of course this is my own opinion.

I will look at them. When I installed mine I could not figure out how to mount them vertically and get them to work. It seems like they should mount vertically but the angle of the tee wouldn't allow it to insert into the door side bracket. There may be a way but I couldn't figure it out. Maybe I could have bent it to work if I could get the bend to stay. The door is as far as it will open. It has a bumper to keep it away from the furnace outlet. But you're correct as to why it wants to come out in the wind.

I'm thinking that the straight latch could work if the heat gun is used to twist the stem 90 degrees, so the installation would look like Steve Reigle's except the recever end would be mounted slot up and gravity would keep the T-bar in place.

Dave,
that's how I mounted mine. Tha angle isn't 90 degrees, it's less than that. I held up the latch and bent it so it hit the keeper at a right angle.

Jim;
Bent it or twisted it (like a screw)?

Dave,
I bent it. I didn't twist it. The parts of the latch that contact the trailer are mounted vertically. I used a bit of heat and bent it gently just a little and held it on the trailer to check for alignment. I did that one more time and it was at the correct angle. Then I put double sided tape on the parts and tried the latch. It fit good so I screwed them in place.

I like the heat gun idea. Now why couldn't I have thought of that? Before installing them! I'll have to take a look and see if I can change it without holes being visible. If I recall, the mounts are rectangular, not square, so it might have to stay as it is.

Thanks for the hold down suggestion.
I bought one regular chrome hold down and one plastic 90 degree hold down.
Our trailer is only 1 week old, this one its first MOD.
Both installed and they work great!

I used the built in heat gun, called a furnace exhaust to soften the plastic hook and bend it.
On the previous unit I used the toaster.
The holders work well and save either the doors whipping around or me getting smacked - I was awake already.

While at the Kerrville rally, I saw that Carl and Susan had this same addition to their rig during the Show and Tell session.
Thanks for the photos for all to see.

Great idea and a good job.
Little things like this should be a standard item for Keystone IMHO!

I think Keystone is listening!
Walt and I visited the Goshen plant a few days ago. It was a fantastic tour! the 2011s are coming off the line now. One of the differences that was mentioned had to do with the door of the basement. Here is a picture showing those changes.
If you ever get a chance, we recommend taking the tour. It really was interesting and informative.

If the picture shows gas struts, we have had them on a couple of vans and SUVs. They tend to lose their mojo over time and in colder weather.
