Filling fresh water tank

Hello, I have a 2005 2980RL that I just bought. I have trouble filling the water tank. When filling the tank, it will allow water in for a while then the water gurgles out the spout as if the tank is full. When I checked the guage I saw it was only a 1/4 full so I pulled the water hose out and air and water shot out of the tank. This was repeated 4 times until I finaaly got the tank full. My old trailer didnt do this so I am wondering what is going on?

Believe your vent tube may be blocked. Should be a small screened hole next to the fill one. Try prying the screen off and probing it (gently) with something like a single piece of stranded electrical wire (you could separate a length of extension cord type of twin lead). If you use a coat hanger, that may be too stiff and damage the tubing.

Sometimes the vent tube is simply kinked ... I think there is a small wedge covered with carpet near the street side rear inner wall that can be removed. You can see the fill hose as well as the vent under it.

The condition you describe is often a result of the hose you are using to fill the tank being too large and the air cannot escape the tank as quick as the water is going in. I have taken a 5 or 6 ft 1/2" hose and cut the male end off to use as a filler hose, I have never had that problem since.

I would also not trust the electronic level indicators on any of the tanks, they are just not accurate, especially after they have been used for a while.

Exactly what I was going to recommend!
