5th wheel hitch and size
I just purchased a 3665RE. The gross weight is close to 16k. Is a 16k hitch okay or should I install a 18K hitch? Also, What brand and model do you recommend?

The bigger the better!! As for brand, it is all a matter of personal opinion and personal finance since the price can range from $500 to $2000. Tthe air ride hitches are some of the best, I am looking at an air ride pin box since our Reese hitch transfers every blemish in the road surface into the TV's cab!!

I will be purchasing the 18K Super5th by Pullrite for my new truck. Overkill for my current coach, but one never knows what will come down the road.

jimmarf, I would go heavier AND I would go AIR. The TrailerSaver Air Ride Hitch is a very good hitch and will protect your investment over the long haul. There is also AirSafe hitches on the market and perhaps another brand. You will spend premium dollars, maybe you could use some stimulus money for that, but you will get the best ride.....I had a "rigid" hitch first year and it beat the crap out of us. My TrailerSaver hitch and the MorRyde hitch pin is a great combination. Others have their opinions also, this is just mine. Good luck and Welcome to "The Best Darned Forum on the WWW!!!

I would vote for giving myself some leeway. When it comes to a hitch in your combination, I would go for the 18K. But it's your dollar so it's also your choice. For example, I have a rig with a GTWR of 14,020K and opted for the 16K hitch, not the 15K. The weight difference and price between the two were marginal, but the gain of a whole ton of leeway was worth the decision for me.

Its my opinion you go big on the 5th wheel Hitch. No less than 18,000 but 20,000 would be better.
Dave are you getting a new Truck???? Or to the real Dark side MDT.. Freightliner M2 or GM or Dodge?? GBY....

Lindy,
I still have the new F350 King Ranch and will be purchasing a new hitch as I no longer need my Superglide from the shortbed Chevy I traded. Wont be buying a new hitch till summer for sure as I am not 100% certain I am keeping this truck. If I keep it, the 18K Super5th is the hitch I have chosen.

16K will be plenty of hitch. There's nothing wrong with going heavier if you want to spend more. Manufacturers under-rate their hitches for safety much like truck manufacturers under-rate towing capacities. If you are below the rated load you have some safety margin. The one thing I would never do is tow 16,000 with say a 15,000 lb. hitch. Be safe and enjoy.
