Thanksgiving week in desert
Thanksgiving 2016 was spent out boondocking with our new 3440RL in the Mojave Desert, South of Ridgecrest, CA. Go out every T-Day week with a group of desert ATV and MC riders (I dont anymore). The rig worked out real well and was a blast to have the extra room for goodies, that the Monty can carry in the cargo hole, like my BBQ, Dutch Ovens and dual burner stoves. Did mention I do alot of outdoor cooking? Always mindful of the water situation, it was watch carefully and never ran out; of course we use bottle water for coffee and dog watering. The Oxygenics shower wand is such a relief in saving water. Only factor that wasnt liked was the noisy Jetflo water pump. Rattles the piping but we lived with it. I used the Honda 2000i generator along with a 120 watt solar panel to keep batteries up, and also so I could watch the TV via Dish Sat. Next trip will be after New Years to the Pismo Beach area. If you look out past the front of Front Cap, that is Ridgecrest and also China Lake Naval Airstation.

My cooking setup, as you look at the picture; under the Blue tarp is the 2 burner Camp Chef propane stove, next to it is a Stainless Steel Grill and using wind deflectors around it (got those in Quartzite many years ago); next to trash barrel is my Electric Smoker which cooked the Turkey breast mucho good and last but not least, the Dutch Oven cooking table with the Red/White cooler ontop. The white sack is a full pooper sack!! yes, we pick it up out there in the boonies too. Sadly to say, most dont, so we always check our shoes before entering the RV incase we stepped in a Landmine of sorts.

Acurite and got it from Lowe's for $79 but now I see them at Tractor Supply for $49... earlier model but still the same unit, but monitor isnt colorized. I got it mainly for wind monitoring, especially in desert where it never stops.. I made up a sidearm attachment to mount on either my flag pole or a painters pole I carry for putting my Ham Radio antennas on. Cut a 3/4" T-Connector in half, then I use hose clamps to hold it to the pole. Temp attached to ladder for photo. You could also attach it to the top of the ladder, but readings wont be as accurate.

For those who haven't tried real boondocking you ought to. Get away from the city atmosphere the people and enjoy the solicitude. When was the last time you were some where there was no sound except the sounds of nature where it was truly dark. Where you could actually see the Milky Way like it was painted on the night sky. I have two places like that I go, Union Pass Wy and the Shirley Basin Wy. You can Google both to see what they are like.
I love places like this but then I'm a coultry boy not used to crowds.

John. I bought the Acurite from Lowes and mounted using the cut T-connector on the top of the ladder with 5 ft more of pvc to extend it above the roof. It is now in learning mode.
Thanks for the info and suggestions on how to mount it.

Nice setup! Your awnings being out suggest to me that the winds were low. Great luck for sure. I have been out in those areas many times (not in the Montana) and sometimes the winds can really kick up.
Since you already have one Honda, add another and a extended range fuel tank and you could run 30 amps worth of your rig all day long. You'll just to put up with the noise, but the Hondas are considered relatively quiet other than the constant 50 decibels of hum that hopefully don't borrow you or your neighbors too much. But only do this if being convenient outweighs the noise. Then there's also having to carry extra gas, too.

Art, and yes I already have the extended gas tank (6 gals) which will last me about 28 hours of continuous operation, until I have to refill it. Dont need another Honda generator. I carry my 2000i in my toolbox in the truck bed, as put in a partition to keep it from shifting around while in travel mode.
