Solar and Dish TV

Since we are running the solar, but also in the shade all morning and as some of you know we are electrical hogs I was looking for a way to cut our usage further. Since TV is one of our electrical hog issues I thought I had to leave the inverter on all night because Dish sends it's programing info to the receiver about 3 in the morning. Turns out if you go to menu, then preferences, then to updates you can change the time it updates. I changed mine to 2pm and so now we can turn the inverter off when we go to bed and only use a couple watts or less per hour until I turn the inverter back on at around 1pm. Gives us a lot better chance at using the vacuum, microwave or electric fry pan, or once in a while the convection oven and watch TV all night and still not run my batteries past 70%.

Sounds great, we think solar would be nice and might add it at some point.

Great tip Dick. Although we do not have Dish or DirecTV I bet this can be applied to other electrical/ electronic items such as computers, tablets, etc. It is amazing how many phantom draws are on the electrical system.
