H. John Kohl, that doesn't look so good. Did it do much damage to the trailer?

OOOOOh! That doesn't look fun! We lost a wheel altogether, but it just left the trailer and didn't do any damage beyond the hub! As Lonnie says - did it tear things up under there?

As an old Army officer, my first thought was that we need to down grade those General tires to Colonel tires!

Of course we all know Sergeants really run any armed force.

I had 2 blow outs on my F-250 trucks in the last few years. Both times it was the left rear and both tires were Generals.
Presently running Kelly all terrain tires and will probably have about 36.000 miles when I replace them.
I have looked at the Goodrich tires and will probably go with them.
What about the Dunlop tires, any good or bad reports on them?
Thanks,
Weldon

Thunderman, you might consider looking at Michelin tires. A lot of fulltime RVers are running them both on TV and 5er.

Thunderman, BF Goodrich makes good tires, so does Dunlop, but not a lot of dealers carry Dunlop and they can be hard to find at times. I agree with Orv on the Michelins, they are more expensive initially, but wear so much longer, they are actually the better value. TOYO and COOPER are a couple of others I would recommend.

Thanks,
My son recently put Toyo tires on his truck, they do look good.
I looked at Discount Tire's website and they have the Yokohama tires, as well as others. They have a high rating on the Yokohama's ......guess I am living in the past but I am leery of
imported tires.
Have a good day!

Generals came on our 2002 Montana a year ago when I was checking air on one of the tires I did not like the look of the side wall. I removed took to a tire dealer he agreed. Purchase a set of Uniroyal Larado's for the return trip from Florida.I never did like Generals

I've had two blowouts on the Monty with General tires, one last year that caused $3500 damage to the Monty, the other a few weeks ago. I was told that the General tire company was sold and the new company cut back on the quality. I've changed all tires to Michlin, and not taking any more chances.

Sorry that happened to you Bill!
I've had general tires, and I didn't think quality COULD get any worse!

Brad, I've been talking to all my tire distributers, and unfortunately, we are stuck with Continental and Goodyear for awhile yet on to 18" tires. None of them have heard anything as far as when the others will be offering this size .
Weldon, I haven't had any experience with YOHOHAMA light truck tires, but if they are anything like their big truck tires, they should be pretty good. Two of my trucking company customers will use nothing but YOKOHAMA on their steering axle.

Lonnie -
Does Goodyear make an 18" that is more of a highway tread than off road? I know I have 4 wheel drive, but I can't stand the road noise those Wrangler AT's produce once they wear down a little.

All I'm aware of at this time are the Wranglers Brad, but I'll check around.
On Edit - TOYO has started production of the OPEN COUNTRY A/T, but general availability is still a while away.

No urgency Lonnie - as I've got a ways to go. I was just curious and always appreciate your advice.

We are in Myrtle Beach and have been trying to replace our 18" tires on our 350 Ford all week. So far all we have been able to find is the Continental at the Ford dealership but they are trying to find a Goodyear for us and will call us tomorrow. As everybody tells us, the bigger tires are "in the works" but not avaible yet in many brands. They told us most people don't put 45,000 miles on their tires the first year like we did. I will say though that we still have tread left on our Continental and have not had any problems but we feel it is time to change before we do. We will let you know what we go with. We are having new tires put on the Tana on wednesday at the Firestone dealer.
