Check the inside of your wheels, on the newer rigs they will have 120# molded into them. If your wheels have that rating they you don't need to replace them. If your wheels are older 80# rims then look for a quality LT tire. A quality LT tire will do you just as well.

If your new 3400RL is similar weight-wise to our 2008 Big Sky (and I think it will be), I would suggest getting actual loaded axle weights before investing in new tires. I thought a top of the line LT tire would be good to replace our Chinese bombs and purchased a set of Bridgestone Duravis R250s for our 80# rims (didn't get any actual axle weights). Pressure is kept at 80# at all times and monitored with a TPMS. Unfortunately, they are all wearing evenly and excessively on the outside and inside edges indicating an overweight condition. Although they are great tires and I've experience no problems so far, they will need to be changed out soon, rims included.

We went with G614s after the china bombs burst. Yes, we went ot new rims that will support the 110 psi. We have never had another issue. Three years and we feel safe when we haul. I would not have any other tire.

We have a 2013 3100RL and we just switched our tires to the G614s and the commercial truck guy said our rims were rated for 110psi 3750. We knew that already because we had looked at the inside of the rims but it was nice to have some affirmation. They switched them without hesitation!
Good luck with your new rig!

I just installed the G614s on a 347THT. After a bad experience with GY Marathons. So far I am very happy. Its funny, the Man at the Goodyear store said he had not heard of any trouble with the Marathon tires (yeah, Right).

Must be different Goodyear Dealers work for Different companies. When I was having a valve stem replaced last year I got to talking to the Manager about 614s and Marathons, and his opinion was that Marathons had no business being on Heavier 5th Wheels. So he must have known of problems or just knew his products. It was a Commerical Truck Tire Goodyear Dealer so he deals with heavy duty tires all day.

The Goodyear dealer I got mine from and took my Marathons in trade said they were only good for light weight trailer applications and that he wouldn't even sell them for a rancher to use on an off road hay wagon. He seemed to have had some bad previous experience.

My plans for our Marathon tires that are setting in a dark farm shed awaiting judgement day is to cut them in half long wise then attach the pieces by bolts through the tread in a shape/pattern (birds eye view) kinda like the Olympic symbol. Then bolt on a 10 ft. steel pipe on longwise along with an old log chain to hookup to a tractor and use then as a Pasture Drag to smooth down cow pies. There will be blowouts, but not the tire kind.

Now that is funny, I don't care who you are!!! However, that would be cruel and unusual punishment that is probably not warranted for those poor unfortunate.....................................co w pies!!

I just came across this article about where tires are made....(not directly related to the type of tires we use on our trailer)
http://news.consumerreports.org/cars...were-made.html
who would have thought finland, Romania and brazil...oh well, it is a world market.
