Stuff learned from the forum

When I replaced the analog thermostat with the Hunter Digital, everything worked as advertised, but my indoor/outdoor digital thermometer and the thermostat were off by 4 sometimes 5 degrees and there was considerable lag time between start and stop times both on heat and air cycling. I learned on this forum that the space behind the thermostat was allowing air to circulate behind the thermostat providing a false sensing of the real air temperature.

The fix as mentioned on the forum was to put a piece of foam behind the thermostat and cover the hole used for the wires to enter the back side. I cut a 1/4" thick piece of foam the size of the back of the thermostat, put a slit in it for the wires and reattached it. This last weekend we had cause for both heat and air. I put the digital indoor /outdoor thermometer next to the thermostat and they agreed. It has never worked so good.

Good job, young man!
My new Dometic single zone theremostat sucks.
Goes into the catagory of 'If I had it to do over again...'

I haven't been able to verify this fix, but the dealer did the same thing for our thermostat by putting some insulating material behind the thermostat. Hopefully, there will be some warm temperatures in a month when we make our annual voyage to the Florida panhandle, so that I can see if the problem is resolved. Our temperatures when we were at the beach were off by 15 degrees (thermostat vs. thermometer) or more during the day. Never had a problem after the sun went down.
