Diesel under $3.00 a gallon!!
The price of oil is tanking. Paying $2.65/gallon here in Abilene. This is good for my pocket book but its a result of a faltering global economy.
Just curious, all those who said that the evil oil companies set and manipulated the price of a barrel, what has made oil so cheap these days?

Diesel just went under $3 here the last few days. Saw it today for $2.979. Hope it tanks further and stays there for awhile.....

They say global demand for fuels of all types is down.
At $4.00 and up a gallon there are a lot of people that cannot afford to drive, and drastically changed their life styles.
Now, that is it down to lower prices, are there some still paying off the credit card bills from the $4.00 a gallon days?? Still don't have $$ to put in the tank??
Or, maybe they really like the lifestyle changes.
Or, they are laid off and have no $$ and no job to drive to??
Probably a bunch more reasons, all too complex.

My personal opinion is the speculative manipulators of commodities got caught up in something way bigger than they could handle. With Wall Street tanking, the falsely inflated prices of everything, stocks, bonuses, golden parachutes, etc. are coming back to reality. Those who made money on speculation are losing money on speculation which in turn reduces the impact of speculation. The price of oil was driven up by brokers (middle men) who are now facing the harsh realities of a recession looming because of the credit crisis. They have to be conservative as well as everybody. Regardless of all of this, I will hang onto my ever-repeated philosophy of the "bonus days" we are given, and rejoice in the riches of our blessings in this great country. As you read this, remember the other people in the world, the starving children, the truly hopeless, and know that you can make a difference in someones lives. I think of a child who receives a Samaritan's Purse Shoebox for Christmas for their ONLY gift and marvel at our attitides at times. Nothing personal against anyone here (as always), but please be thankful for the riches that we do have. Remember that if you have a pair of shoes, clean clothes, a roof over your head, and change in your pocket that you are richer than 95% of the people in the world. Sorry, off the soap-box now.......

Filled up in Fremont, NE tonight for $2.699 for diesel! It's still $2.799 at the lowest here in Omaha. If this keeps going, we might just head South for a bit yet this winter and get rid of this cold air!

Diesel was $2.61 at Bucee's at Surfside Beach at 523 and 332 just outside of Freeport. Shucks we filled up at the Bucee's in Angleton @ $2.69..... go figure we thought $2.69 was a steal since Bacliff has diesel the cheapest at $2.70 to $2.99.

Diesel was $2.57 in Vegas two weeks ago, and now it's at least $.10 cheaper. I put enough in Red to get back to Vegas on our way to Quartzsite in January, and then I'll get enough to get from Vegas to Siskiyou and back home in May. Nice to have big tanks, although it's still a shock to fill, cause I can shop around.

A barrel of oil is down again today isn't it? Wish we had money in a bank instead of stocks..... we would be traveling. Well maybe not we are working to shore up the income that we won't have the sale of stocks down the road.

Yes Gas and diesel is a the lowest price in 22 months, yes it only took 22 months for this disaster to unfold and that is good for those who can still fill up the tank. However 5.00 per gallon 4.00 per gallon, 2.00 per gallon 1.00 per gallon. If one does not have the dollars they can not buy it at any price. We are the largest consumers of energy on the planet... supply and demand.... our demand is down because we can not afford the fuel. Now that is good for some of us who are not affected or do not care but a disaster for millions of folks here at home and all over the world.

Amen and well said to both Bingo and Rich.
The number of people that are and going to be effected by this economy is mind blowing.
We need to give thanks for what we have and try to help others that may need help.
