Electrical Surprize

I wired in a new "Surge Guard" surge protector today. When I went to reroute the power coming into the panel I found a problem. Looks like the electrician that installed the power cable at the factory used his pocket knife or a box cutter to cut the PVC housing of the cable. In the process he cut through the insulation around all three conductors. I noticed only one conductor cut when looking at the wire coming into the back of the panel. I discovered the other two were when I pulled the cable out to reroute it. Luckily the wiring hasn't shorted in the 6yrs I've owned it.
Something new every time you peel back a layer.

I remember when Made in America used to mean something. These stories really frost me and things don't seem to be getting better as manufacturers continue to "minimize" things to maximize their profits. We can always hope that the majority of workers are mostly conscionable people.

If the rv industry had to meet the same requirements that the auto industry adheres to, we would have fewer such occurences- JMHO- Don
