Shower Drain
We have been on the road for 2 weeks in the new 2980 her maiden voyage. So far pretty much trouble free. However I did run into something today thats just plain stupid I think. Could someone tell me why you would use plumbers putty to seal around the shower drain. Common Keystone spend the extra 2.00 and use a rubber seal. I went to Home Depot and bought a seal and scraped off the putty and no more leakin shower drain after I installed the rubber seal. You new trailer owners might watch the shower drain. If you should step onto the top of the drain while showering it will probably start leaking Al

After first trip mine had silicon caulking. Hard to figure out what they are thinking of when they build not just Keystone but other brands also.

Typical plumbing problem with Keystone products. Seems they leave all their plumbing connections loose. Both of my campers I have had to tighten up all the plumbing connections and use teflon tape. Shower drain I got lucky, didn't leak.

We only used our 2006 2980 once and our shower leaked through the drain also.
I took the P-trap out and tail piece off so I could try to tighten
the large nut holding the drain to the shower base.
I managed to get just about a whole turn on that main nut.
That was very difficult with the heat duct in the way.
Thats my guess why the original installer never got it tight enough.
All fixed now, no more leak.

It really does tick me off that a guy spends 40K plus for a trailer and they use .50 worth of plumbers putty that probably took longer to smear in and keep in place than a simple rubber tub gasket. Maybe if the dealers had a big return on the units to fix shower drains they would think twice about the use of the putty Al

Could someone help me out here. Maybe I am lucky, but so far I have never noticed a shower drain leak on my coach. Where are you folks finding the leak at? Inside the coach or down in the basement? I added this to my things to check list when the coach comes out of the garage. Any info would be appreciated.

Take the access covers off at the bottom of the shower, this will allow you to tighten the incoming water lines, as well it will give you access to the drain to check it. Then get into your storage area on the drivers/bedroom side, and then you can tighten the fittings on your trap. Also when your take the trailer out for the first time look for water leaks around the drain line after you have water pressure on the system.

We had the same problem -- the shower in our 2004 3380RL leaked into the basement after about a month of use. We were able to access the pipes from the basement area -- rather awkward as the hole was very small but we managed and once we got it fixed we have had no more problems. Les

Have had early 06 3500 for about 5 weeks in Yuma. The other day found 2 rolls of TP ruined under sink. Got looking around and found bottem wing nut loose at base of shower drain and screw they used to hold drain screen rusting. Drain was leaking pretty bad, but you know as one gets older. Any way I found there was no working space next to heater vent and I used a small wooden dowell and a hammer and lightly tapped the wing nut about another 1/2 turn. Haven't tried the shower yet, but I think it's tight enough to hold. Went to local hardware store and replaced screw with a stainless steel one. Hope that does it.

Our shower drain in our '05 3400 leaked into the basement as well. Same plumbers putty, however, a slightly different situation. In addition to Keystone leaving the connection loose, about a 1/2 inch or so of play, they had GLUED the lower twist thing so it couldn't be cinched up tight. Had to have the PVC drain spout cut off and replaced as well as some of the plastic pipe down below. Fixed it so I now have a removable cleanout piece in the basement.

Our shower starting leaking a little while ago in our 06 3000RK in the "basement at the drain". We had just put a 5 Gallon bucket there for the time being. After reading this topic, Dan bought yesterday a rubber seal and he put it on last night. Took about 15 minutes and now it's fixed. Thanks for the info, we wouldn't have known without the MOC!

O.K. guys out there, Her idea of 15 min. is how long she helped me. My estament was little longer than that. I started about 7pm. and after 6 or 7 beers were looking around 9 maybe 9:30. The hardest thing was just getting to it, its tucked up there pretty good. And I only had that third hand it would have gone a lot faster. Thanks for all the info, This is a great Family to be a part of.

Truth is good, Dano,
Now try fixing it after 6 or 7 Rum & Cokes. Now when you flush the toilet the furnace comes on.
(just Kidding)
But you're right... hard place for an (semi) old man to get in & out of.

Well John, If ya gotta be working on "Monty" there's nothing wrong with having a little fun doing it. And when I flush the toilet as long as it does'nt come up thru my shower drain my plan worked.

I hear you Dano,
Nothing better then 4:00 on a warm Saturday afternoon Getting the campfire going and having a cool one.
RVing is one of the best ways to have fun I know of. I guess thats why we've been doing it for the last 25 years.
