Landing gear shear pin...Bolt

If you break the bolt (shear pin) and don't have a new one, just slip a sheet-rock screw in there and tape it so it doesn't fall out until you get a new one.
It is actually a cap screw and nut.

It would be good to keep a spare up there somewhere. I have one in a plastic bag taped to the shelf, a good way would be a magnetic key-holder with the spare inside, along with spare shear-pins for the slides...

OZZ, The sheetrock screw might not work well on the motor side if it is too long. There is only a hair more than the nut's width clearance on that side. I used an Allen wrench (short side through the hole and and taped the long side to the shaft).
Agree these bolts should be on the emergency parts kit like shear pins are to an outboard motor for the propeller.

True, true.. I used a sheet rock screw at the Branson rally for a MOC member to get them by, that is where the tape comes in. An Allen wrench would indeed be better.

I sheared one this morning. (passenger side) The only thing I had with me was a bolt that was a shade too big. A little help with my hammer made it fit. Replaced that with the right size when I got home. Does anyone know what size pins I need for the slides on a 2010 3400rl. I need to get some backups. Thanks

I actually like it as i didnt even know i had shear pins in my electric landing gear. The bolt size would be good to know here also if someone has that info.

There are two shear bolts on the horizontal crossbar that drives the legs of the landing gear. On the motor side the bolt (and nut) you are looking for is a 1/4" X 3/4" (1" long in total) socket shoulder screw with 10-24 threads. It uses a 10-24 nylon insert locknut . It can be found at True Value hardware. It uses a hex wrench. Make sure it clears the motor on the motor side!
The threads are not 3/4 inch, just the smooth shiny shank of the bolt. The bolt head is black.

On the driven side the bolt is 1 1/2" and can be longer as there is no potential interference from anything nearby. Unless you have a generator prep and then the aluminum box makes access a little more difficult.

There are also shear devices (shear pin and a roll pin) inside the landing leg gears which are different. These can be obtained from Venture manufacturing or a well equipped hardware store.

Then there is the shear bolt on the slide out cross bar. It is any standard 1/4" x 20 grade 2 bolt that is long enough to go through.
