National Interstate leaving RV field!!

We got a letter from National Interstate informing us that we will not be renewed in Dec because they are dropping out of the insurance of RVs. They say they that Safeco will be picking up those policies. I have yet to hear from Safeco and out policy expires 29 Dec 17. I will contact USAA to see if they cover RVs but I doubt it.. Anybody else in same boat??

We have our RV insurance through USAA. They subcontract through Progressive at a great rate. Also, we had some storm damage while wintering in the gulf area a couple of winters ago. Progressive has a line especially for USAA members. They sent a mobile RV repair company to our site. They performed the evaluation and recommended parts. Since we were moving soon, they sent the parts to another mobile RV repair company in NC and they performed the repair. All the while we were kept informed on the progress and all dates were met.

Best of luck with your search.

We had RV insurance through USAA. Dropped them last year after being with them for 34 years and went to Geico. USAA rates just kept climbing without claims or tickets. Saved about 20% with Geico.

We have State Farm and they were great on a major claim I had about 6 months ago on the Monte ($14K). Approved the repairs and paid the claim promptly. Have our house and both vehicles with them also for many years and have always been very happy with their service. Financed my truck and DW's Expy thru them also.

Angry National Interstate insurance update.

Well after a month of calls we finally got a package from Safco who is supposed to take the place of the National Interstate policy.. They shouldn't have even bothered, these clowns are strictly Auto insurers. They have no coverage for awnings or slide toppers or anything not installed by the manufacturers. They WILL NOT cover full timers. So we are back on the hunt again. Getting close to the final date of Dec 29 for the old policy.. Not that I have anything else to do.. GRRRR!!

I think all insurances do the creeping price changes. I have been with Geico for 31 years and they just went up $20 on the monthly policy with 5 insured items. If I was to go USAA, I would most likely get a better rate for the first year or two and then be right back where I was with GEICO. Has anyone tried the AARP (Hartsford) insurance? Probably wouldn't be much better.

Exnavydiver, I feel your pain as we have the same insurance with National Interstste, but don’t expire until 2/18. Thanks for the heads up! Sounds like maybe contacting Geico for a quote might be a good direction. FYI, NI also insured our truck, which they no will be doing either. Merry Christmas to you and yours and I will keep a lookout for any progress that you make, and, share anything that I turn up.

If you are not regularly reviewing your coverage and getting new quotes you may not be getting the best protection at the best price. Similar to cable/satellite tv and cell phones you tend to get punished for being a loyal customer.

Good call Dave. I did that earlier this year with all my woes with those clowns. And you may not have saved 15% as with Geico, but when you are in Quartzsite at the RV show, Flo will give you a free plastic shopping bag. Priceless!

Merry Christmas to you and Betsy from Kristi and me.

I just switched over to Progressive through the USAA link. Saved quite a bit of money in the process.

Researched many RV insurance policies and found NOTHING that comes close to the National Interstate coverage. Satisfied with the progressive coverage since our rig is ten yrs old now. But I doubt that we will purchase a new rig since the the lack of decent coverage. NI's policy was tailored specifically to RV and not just another rider or add on to auto or home owners. It even had awning coverage.. Will miss it..

I just ran our figures at Good Sam and it would cost $300/yr more than my current Liberty Mutual for truck, car and 5r.
