As there has been much discussion about the dreaded thretford toilet and how much better the dometic is, there is no excuse if someone has there rv flooded from the thretford. I know it is hard to replace what seems to be a perfectly good toilet but we have all been warned. Is it really worth taking the chance?

Yes but we’ve also been talking about China bomb tires for 10 years and people still use them. So what good has that done.

We simply turn the water off before we leave as a precaution, 12 months on the road, no problems.

NOTHING. Some people think if the tire has tread then it is good or if the toilet flushes then there is no need to replace. The only reason subjects should be gone over and over is because we are constantly getting new members and they need to know the problems others have had. It's much cheaper to learn from the experience of others than to have to go through it yourself. This forum can save you a lot of nightmares but in my case also cost me a lot of money from the many improvements I've made from so many members ideas. This forum is a great tool for all of us.

If you still have the Thetford toilet, hopefully some late night you are able to wake up enough from a dead sleep to shut the water off when the pedal comes off the toilet and water is running, about to flood your rig. That happened to us and I was able to stop it before a flood. A couple hundred dollars for a new toilet is very cheap insurance.
