3850 Shake down

We are in our 3rd day of our shake down of the new 3850. So far things have work as they are supposed to. We are at the Fayetteville RV Resort just a few miles from home.
I have added a couple of shelves to take advantage of the large cabinet space in the kitchen, added a shelf over the entertainment receiver and moved the DirecTV receiver and router into the same cabinet. Looking for space for the ice maker I found as Bingo that the only place for it is under the sink. Thanks to Jim Fischer's advice I added an outlet under the sink for the ice maker. Thanks again Jim. Push bars on screen doors and step covers installed.
When our washer was installed the installer moved the old drain pan with it and it was sitting on a ledge. The washer was leaning back. I too my drimmel and took care of that.
The weather station is up as well as the base for the flag pole.
Next I will install new door locks, put rock tamer mud flaps on the TV before the week is out.

Thanks Larry. We are. With the temps dropping in the 20's last night we exercised the furnance and it kept us comfortable and I disconnected the water hose and the pump worked as designed.

By the time you finish you will have another version of the 3850. Good luck with your mods and hope you enjoy the rig when you depart for Thanksgiving.

Did Keystone have the sense to put cupboard door stays on the 8 kitchen & bedroom cupboards in the 3850 that have doors opening from bottom to top?

moutard2,
No, they do not, but there are only five in the 3850, the same four in the bedroom, but only one in the kitchen area above the microwave. That is one of the items on my mod list, struts for those doors!

Gee George, we were thinking of getting a new one too but now that we hear of all the work that has to be done on a NEW unit we're getting second thoughts!

We are just having too much fun. Two litters of puppies on the way, so all of our mods are put on hold until all puppies are sold.

Bingo, can you tell me what struts you use on those doors? I would like to fix those in the 3750, as trying to retrieve something while holding that door up is difficult, as well as hard on the head!! Can they be found at Lowe's or similar?

Thanks to you or others who can share that info!

I get mine at Camping World. Here are the ones that I used on the 3750, there are other variations available.

Cabinet Struts

Bingo

I will add to predrill the holes since the cabinets are very hard wood. Use caution when drilling the doors themselves, mark the bit with tape or something so you do not penetrate the outside facing of the cabinet doors.

Watch out for the different attachment methods. Some have feet and others have just a screw (the one Bingo linked to). The six or seven of us who have done this used this CW version.

The ideal would be if there was a metal version that had the feet, but I was unable to find one. I would have preferred the footed type, but did not want plastic. I do remember that some had problems with the single screw attachment type, but I, personally, never had a problem. The only problem I had was leaving them on the 3750FL when we traded it in and having to buy new ones for the 3850FL!

Thanks Dick. Rondo, we are just trying to take advantage of the large cabinets and make more space. If you do this Mary would really be happy when you get that new rig.

Jay Bird and Bingo.... Have either of you had any issues with the sliding door between the bedroom and bathroom? Just curious.

I only have the return trip under this Montana's belt, which was about 7 hours. No issues yet. Will know more in a couple of weeks when we take our 18 hour round trip to Charleston, SC.

So Bingo, you used the metal version and Carl you used the plastic ones? Had read that some had problem with plastic version? Any issues with those?

Thank you both for the feedback! I will mark the drill bit to insure not going through the front - excellent idea!

Bought ours at CW. They have foot on both ends. Transferred them from old to new, still working.

I have had the plastic struts for two years (and lots of use) with no problems.
