Grey water backs up, won't drain till black drain open

Hi again all,

We've got a 2019 Montana 3731FL, and something seemingly odd is happening.

When we've taken a few showers, the shower drain stops draining, and water sits in the drainpan. BUT, when we pull the grey tank drain, the water doesn't drain out. Only after pulling the black tank drain does it go down. We even had it happen with the grey tank valve left open!

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Rich,

I have a 2018 3721FL and they had are two rear tank valves mislabeled. The black tank valve went to grey tank and grey valve went to black tank.
We had to switch tank labels.

Ohiocamp is probably right. Check the tank gauges and they may verify that.

Our trailer had the hydraulic slide controls mislabeled, the outdoor scare lights mislabeled, and the tv antenna cables mislabeled.

Thanks, ohiocamp...

That would make sense, and something we never thought of. Going to check and see if that's the case, it seems to be a pretty commonly occurring problem.

There's been a discussion going on with the same problem (or similar). You probably already know that there are two gray tank valves, only one is in the convenience center. No one told me about this when we got ours in late September.

Yeah... we came across the second one up front by accident, as you said, it's not in the literature and no one told us about it either...

Dealers can't tell you things that they don't have a clue about. We had that same hidden pull handle on our 2010 2955RL and didn't know it was there until visiting a different Dealer and saw it on a unit in their Show Room.

Did anyone wonder why there were two grey tank level indicators?

I know why just in case the first one is wrong you can comfort with the second one. Every body knows that. LOL

You have two grey indicators because you have two grey tanks one shower & bath and one galley tank!

I always pull the galley tank valve open as soon as we set up. That way I only have to worry about 2 tank levels.

Valves were mislabeled on my 2019 3731 also. I didn't realized there was a 2nd gray water valve until the level sensor showed full but I knew I had the one gray valve open but the level was not dropping. Another commentor said his slide switches were mislabeled - mine has no labels and one slide switch out of the 4 does nothing.

I found that out the hard way on my 2019 3731 on its first trip. I went to a private landowner's lot on a lake. I was going to drain the grey water to help water his lawn. Needless to say, I spent the next hour so cleaning up black water waste out of his yard.

We had the same problem with ours. I just relabeled the handles.

We also have a 2019 3731FL and had the same issue. My husband checked outside while I was in the shower and figured out the labels were backwards. Thank goodness for an easy fix!

I put a valve at the drain outlet so I can leave the hard-to-reach galley valve open all the time and just open the main valve as soon as I hook up to on-site sewer or dump station.

That is funny, and not funny. I would send Keystone a bill for the trouble based upon their willful negligence.
