Lighting the oven pilot light
I cannot figure out for the life of me how to light the
Magic Chef oven pilot light. What do you do with the "pilot"
knob while lighting? I could use some help!!!
Thanks!!!

Turn the knob to piolet and push it in till it lites but if you have not lite a burner yet lite a burner 1st as that way you have gas up the the stove,, you have to hold the button in till it starts burning a few seconds or 30 seconds ;its like a piolet on a gas water heater, if you lite one of them;;paintence sailer

get a butane mini torch, easy to use, then sit back, relax, get on your knees, tilt your head till it hurts, push in the knob at the same time while holding the lighter,re-focus your bi-focals,turn on some music, this will drown out your dw asking if you have it lit yet, and after locking up your knees and your neck, drag yourself up,off the floor, readjust your glasses and head to olive garden for dinner and a few drinks!!!!!come back, get some rest and try again. :-) Oh, did I mention this is the hardest thing to lite and good luck...

Racerjoe, I love the description you gave. This is tougher than it really needs to be, but because the stove is so low to the floor, I almost have to be double jointed. (I'm 6'5") We always turn it off before departing and then I get to relight it again. Thankfully we don't have to do that every night, just the nights when we have to use the oven. Good luck, and yes hold the button "in" for 30seconds. Once lit, you let the butane lighter (with a long "snout") go to off, then continue to hold the button on the stove in for the 30 seconds. I've used that process with success.

Thanks for the help! Do you leave the pilot light on from one night to the next, like you do on a water heater?

We leave ours lit as long as we are in one place, and turn it out before moving. In fact, if we know we will not need the oven for a couple of days we turn it off to save that piddlin' little bit of gas. I hear it might get expensive some day!!

Turn the valve past pilot to Warm and lite the pilot. No waiting or holding the knob in. Wait a few seconds and turn back to pilot position or start cooking.

Well hell racerjoe, all this time I thought I was doing it wrong. I use exactly the same method you described. Jim

I have a very easy way to light the oven. I just yell out: "Honey, come light the oven" and it lights.....Actually, we use everything in our Montana and she is a pro at lighting it....

Takes two of us. I hold in the knob, Len lies on the floor and uses the "torch". Some times it's just not worth the trouble.

Have you been watching me when I light the oven?

We have never used the oven in our 06 3400 as it is to hard to light. It makes for great storage and can be a good breadbox.

It helps if you have the arms of an orangutan and can stand on your head. I use one of those long bbq lighters and it's still a pita. They sure could have used a piezoelectric starting device there!

We used the heck out of ours until this year. I bought the DW one of those countertop electric convection ovens from Lowe's. Not near as much heat in the RV, and it does a great job.

Helen uses the Apollo for everything so there has been no need for the Oven.

Kathy seldom bakes but if she does, she uses the convection oven. We have even used it running off of the two Honda generators while at Quartzsite.

Thanks! The idea of lighting a burner first (even though we’d already used the stove) did the trick for us lighting the stove pilot.
