National D-Day Memorial 70th Commemoration

We had the privilege of attending the 70th anniversary of D-Day activities at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia today. This was one of the most moving experiences of my 66 years. It was most humbling to be in the midst of the many surviving veterans of Normandy.

Bedford lost more men per capita than any other place in America. We have a wonderful memorial for DDay if you get a chance stop and see it. It is just about 30 minutes off I 81 at Roanoke Va.

While you are in the area ride up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You will love it. If you go south call me and I will ride up and meet you at the Bent Mt exit. 540 353 0480.

mlh, wish I'd known this yesterday. In the early 70's I worked in Roanoke and lived in an apartment on Yorkshire St. in Salem. After the ceremonies yesterday, we took a drive around the old area. Found the old apartment. Checked out the railroad in Roanoke where I worked. We made our way up to the star on Mill Mountain then drive the Blue Ridge Parkway north to begin our trip back to our campground south of Lynchburg.

I live west of Salem at Glenver. It is a nice ride over Poor Mt to the Parkway. Hope you enjoyed being in the valley. Have a nice trip.
Lynwood.
