GAS / DIESEL NOT BRAND

Rich the new Chevy that I own is much quieter than the 6.4 Fords I test drove. Pam was happiest with the Chevy for this reason also. Gotta keep them happy if you know whats good for you. Yes I did get used the the sound. I often drove with the radio off just to listen the the "music of the diesel".

We to noted that the Chevy was the 'quietest" of the 3 diesels.The truck just did not fit our needs. We would have had no problem purchasing any of the big three..As always it is what serves your needs and budget.Maybe I drive diesels to often as I have been driving them most every school day for 7 years..It is always good to get away from the diesel noise and into a nice quiet gasser.Also since we do drive more diesel than gas we can easily seperate fact from fiction concerning gas vs diesel.

Love this discussion. You old hands have a lot to share. At work we have MOSTLY 8.1 Chevs with 4.10 rear ends. Not all gas stations in our neck of the woods have diesel available. We replace every 3-5 years as we work the trucks hard towing boats and barges. We have an older Ford f450 with a 7.3 power stroke. It is a custom vehicle with a 4.30 rear end. That thing can pull like a dozer. My MH had a V10 and it ran quiet and smooth and climbed with a car in tow without any strain. I have a list of musts, wants and then would be nice. So far, both gas and diesel can meet all my musts. After that its gets somewhat complicated. The more I read here the more I learn.

MAC - Interesting comment. Its a whole new story when it comes to a motorhome. The price difference between a 8.1 gasser and Cummins deisel in a MH is almost $30-40!!, and that's before getting into the pusher type CATs! For those kinda bucks and anticipated part timer use for a MH, a guy could learn to get by with the gasser pretty quick.

So I trade in my trusty 05 V-10 as buy myself a shinny new 08 Diesel..This is a good thing because, among other things, I will get way better MPG and save many dollars... and so it came to pass that I am doing 2MPG better than the V-10 and it only cost me @ 5K dollars for that 2 stinking MPG's and the price of gas today is 2.509 and the price of ULSD for my shinny new diesel is 3.199..that would be .61 per gal difference..at that rate I will break even about the spring of 2023..ahhh but it is a very nice truck as it glistens in the driveway..I may even drive it to the nearest ULSD station tomorrow..which is 6.3 miles away ... so I can hear it rattle and clank.. I sure know how to make a good deal...

Yes Rich we both do. I came out to the rally with the new Chevy. Had I waited until the following week I'd saved another 1500.00 as GM kicked up the rebate to 5000.00. Oh well I just recieved the GM card in the mail with 600.00 on it for accessories. Now I have to search and see what I want. can't leave GM money alone fot too long it may vanish.
