NEED HELP WITH TV WEIGHT/CAPABILITY

Can anyone help me with this weight/capability question? I bought an 04' 3685FL today and the dealer told me I would have no problem with my 06' F-350 srw 6.0 pulling this vehicle. I'm wanting to make a couple of long trips(1500miles) a year and 10 or 12 short trips(50-100miles). Is my rig being a srw capable?

This is my first fvr and want to make sure I'm going to have no problems towing.
Dealer also wants to put in Husky 16K slider. Any thoughts?

You're sure to get a number of replies about weights and capabilities, but a 350 diesel should handle your needs quite nicely.

The experts will along here shortly, but I wanted to quickly assure you that a 350 PSD SRW will have no problem with a 3685FL. Lots of members here with that Montana and a mixture of TVs (250s, 350s, Chevy 2500s, 3500s and Dodges in both sizes).

The slider hitch is good insurance if you have a short bed truck.

Welcome aboard JL. The Ford will handle it. I have the F-350 6.0 2006 SRW 4X4 short bed with the Reese Signature Series slider. I have recently pulled the Monty (2005 3650 RK)from Louisiana to California with no problems at all.

JL, I have the same trailer you just purchased. I currently pull it with a F350 DRW, but my previous truck was a SRW and we pulled the trailer to Texas twice and all across the Midwest and black hills area with the SRW. I needed another truck so when I got ready to purchase a new one I looked at the DRW and was happy with how it rode so I have it. I also like the satisfaction of knowing I have plenty of capacity to spare rather than pushing the limits.

Your F350 will tow anything in the Montana line, and the 16K is the right hitch. Enjoy that new rig! I always liked that floorplan.

If you want the technial answer -

Your gross weight rating on that model Montana is 14,340 lbs, within the combined gross vehicle rating of the Ford, and within the hitch rating of 16K.

Based on the model of truck, you cargo capacity should be around 3,200 lbs (you actually have to weigh the truck and subtract from the GVWR posted in the door). Roughly, you should have around 1,000 lbs for people and cargo, plus any additional weight on the Montana pin after you load it. A little tight, so watch how you load the truck (extra fuel, tools, other heavy stuff).

To find the cargo capacity for YOUR truck, check the sticker on the left rear door or door pillar entitled "Tire and Loading Information." That sticker will give you the cargo capacity for your truck to the nearest one pound. As Brad noted, you'll be close when you have a real hitch weight (not empty), the weight of passengers, cargo, the 5th wheel hitch, etc...do the numbers. As other posters have noted, pulling will be no problem, cargo capacity is always the weak link with 5th wheels.

John, enjoy the new Montana and congratulations! I agree with those who say your 6.0 SRW will do just fine. We towed our 2003 3295RK (14,360 scaled pounds) and this 3400RL (14,620) with a 2003 F350 SRW 6.0 and then a 2005 F250 SRW 6.0. We towed those two rigs somewhere between 60k and 70k miles total. You will be pleased with how well it tows, stops, and handles the load. Good luck and enjoy.
