Congrats on your new Duramax! I have the Westin Platinum nerfbars on my truck, so far have not had an issue with my boots scratching the paint. Enjoy your new truck.

I went shopping online after work today...

Gotta purdy it up a bit ya know.
Got the Westin Wide Oval Bars, and some exterior trim goodies.
I'm planning on adding extra protection under the doors using 3M clear protector - comes in 6" rolls and I have some already. We'll see how that material works.
My topper is off to the painters, I found out it would cost me $2000 to replace my 2 year old topper, so reusing the old one.

It isn't even home yet and my wife is saying 'here we go...'

Should have it pretty well back in action by mid week next week.
I can't wait to have it sitting at home to start tweeking.

Congratulations on your new truck. You will be glad you made the leap. Pulling your trailer now will be a breeze.We just got back from the Northeast Rally and went through the mountains of West Virginia with no problem. I will send you some pictures showing what that tow haul will do on a 9% grade. Now you just need to make the commitment to come to Branson next year so we can see it and you can laugh at those hills.

Now my truck will probably do a burnout up those hills...

Picked up our 2007 2500 Chevy Duramax/Allison yesterday. Working on getting it broke in so we can pick up the 07'3400RL Wednesday June 13th. Then the house goes on the market. Hope to be out of here around November 1st. Looking forward the the full-time adventure!

I'm sure the dealers still made plenty of money...I did the best I could to keep it down.

Ozzie,

When you get that new truck and hook up to the Mountaineer for the first time. Try pulling it in the normal mode. I'll bet you'll find out the truck will pull that thing with out much of a problem. Then try it in the tow/haul mode. You'll find out the truck turns into a completely different animal! They say the Allison tranny is bullet proof. I think it is. I've got over 42000 miles on mine now, and it is still breaking in.

By the way, when I hook up the 5er to my Silverado, I push the button to put it in the tow/haul mode before I take her out of "Park".

You will also notice that once you get up to highway speed and the computer is detecting no change in speed or that there is no grade, it will shift into overdrive.

Steve, you got that new Dodge yet?

Ozzie..Now I understand about the fixing her up part. We have spent the last 2 days arranging to have bed liner sprayed on, nerf bar and mud flaps ordered, and a bug gaurd on order! What kind of mileage do you guys hope to get with this truck? Husband has truck now I can't wait for the 5er on Wednesday!!!!!!!

Dale, got it. Got it up to 500 miles last night, then the dealer applied the latest flash and detailed it this morning. Did a test hitchup and find no need to adjust the hitch. And it brings the rear of the truck down to level. So we're good to go. Will have to set the brake controller in the morning as we pull out.

Dandt, good luck selling the house and getting on the road!

Ozzie, looks like you're getting anxious to get on the road. Let us know how it goes! I think you'll enjoy the new truck.

ozzie, i bought the same truck a few months back. love it! the tow/haul can be engaged at any speed. i have 10000 mi and an getting a little over 17 mpg. i have not used any type additives so far. had a chevy tech from factory tell me its a waste of money. i tend to belive him.the 17 mpg is NOT towing. get almost 13 towing 3075 montana. 33' long, and around 10.500 weight. hope this helps some. happy camping.

Had the truck out for a short pull this weekend...what a sweet ride it is. Much like the truck I traded in, but this one is the four door and LBZ/Allison.
Power to spare...I took it easy, but it turns out I never did have to lean on it. I tried the cruise with tow/haul on some hills and got a taste. Gotta love it.
On a fairly steep hill, it was cruising with little effort, so I decided to give it a little help to see what it had left. Going about 45, my wife and I felt a wheel try to break loose...

Now all I want is to get a little better mileage pulling...patience, patience...

Good luck with your new truck; you're gonna love it. You might consider changing the fluid in your rear end at 500 miles. You'd be surprised what might come out. I use tow/haul every time I hook up the trailer.

Great truck huh? Love mine.
We are heading for the Yellowstone River Saturday Morning, first pull with the new truck, I have 1250 miles on it and it runs like a dream. We'll be going over 4th of July Pass and another long one, can't remember the name now. Won't have any problems at all.

Yay!

My wife is already talking about going to the mountains...

It just puts a smile on my face to be able to go back and not worry about the truck handling it.
We're thinking next time out of going to the Black Hills for a few days.
With any luck, we can plan a vacation to Glacier (my favorite place so far)...
