Tameing the jet engine
One of the things I wished for in my 2005 3670 was heat in the bathroom! I was happy to see the heat duct in our 2010 3605 until we ran the furnace, it sounded like a jet engine in there. Our last trip of the season was spent in nights in the low 30s so I decided something had to be done. Here is a link to how I re-routed the duct and eliminated the noise.

Mike -- You can come out to Omaha and put one in my bathroom if you like! We have a 2004 unit and it does not have a duct to the bathroom at all! By the way, nice job and thanks for the pictures!

So if I have this right...You took the supply duct for the bathroom off of the furnance and put it into the main duct to supply the bathroom vent?

That's correct.
Tom
Sorry it was confusing, how can I clarify?

T first two pictures show the center duct from the furnace that runs to the bathroom. Third picture shows the adapter and hole saw. I'm OK to that point. 4th picture shows a hole cut in to a duct. Which duct - and where is it cut? Lt picture shows the duct from the furnace that used to run to the bathroom tied into another duct - but again, which duct?
Another puzzler part is does this mean you have no heat in the bathroom?

So how did it quiet it done? Is it less force or what? Did you do any modifications to the floor vent itself in the bathroom?
I would love to quiet ours down some also!

Tom
The new hole is right next to the flexible duct that feeds the floor register duct as seen in picture 2(there is a rectangular duct built into the floor from the back to the front of the basement)the flex duct from the bathroom now goes to the floor register duct.
Scott
The original duct was straight off the furnace and piped the blower noise directly up the vent. The airflow from the new location is reduced but in our unit still provides plenty of heat.
I noticed that when I removed the bathroom duct the noise went away(duh!) but that the noise from the floor register was low, for some reason the noise isn't transferred to that duct so I tied the pipe into it.
FYI Since the floor register duct runs the length of the bedroom you can add a second floor register on the other side of the bed if you need more heat in the bedroom.
Hope this helps clarify what I did.

Thanks Mike for the explanation and sharing with us.
That is good to know that the duct also goes all the way accross the bedroom. I thought from the beginning that they should have added one more vent in the bedroom or at least placed the one floor vent on the far side of the bed near the closet to spread the heat more evenly accross the room.

One more question...What did you use to cover the opening left in the furnace wall where you removed the duct?

I had an old damper plate that along with some metal tape covered it nicely.
