Arundel Fire Crews Battle Camper Fire

Firefighters responded to a large camper fire Monday evening on Sinnott Rd, in the town of Arundel. The call came in at 6:48pm, after family members who were upstairs of the two story home noticed smoke coming from the driveway.

By the time the first crews arrived on scene the camper was already fully involved with fire. It was parked only four feet from the house, an immediate issue fire fighters had to deal with upon arrival because fire was spreading to the outside structure of the home.

At some point while battling the blaze the brakes on the camper let go, sending it rolling down the driveway approximately ten to fifteen feet before fire fighters got a wheel stop under it. This actually helped crews keep the fire from spreading into the home. Lieutenant Justin Cooper told News 13, "if the camper had not lost its brakes like that when it did, chances are very good the house would have burned down too".

Fire crews were able to save the home from major fire damage and there were no injuries to report. The Fire Marshall's office has been called, and will be on scene to investigate in the morning. Crews cleared the scene at 8:45pm.

You’re right, “ya just never know.” I wonder what caused the fire. The article didn’t mention what the possible cause was or what type and brand of camper it was either. Here is a link in essence, it's the same as what was posted. Maybe they will do a follow up later.

Amazing though, the way in which the brakes gave away and kept the house from burning! Makes me think it might have been a motor home. Something must have been watching over that house-hold.

...and here I thought it was a safety feature to chock the wheels...
Like the title said, "Ya just never know."
