Small Separate Freezer - Montana Owners Club

Several have talked about small separate freezer, what type did you look at and what dimensions are they. Where you get them and what is approx cost. Rich you talked about one that was 24"x18" I think it was you and going to put it on your slide out tray. Looking for ideas.

No, it won't fit in the slide out tray..Looks like to get one of any size it will have to go somewhere in the camper as we will have the W/D in the closet.The basement is a good idea but so far have not found one that we consider adequate size that will fit.We have time to look and perhaps someone on the forum has the answer.

We bought a Sears Kenmore Model 25502 5.0 Cubic foot upright freezer, and put it in the W/D closet. (Their web site no longer seems to carry the info on it, as it was last year's model. I've been coping well with going to the laundry every four or five days. But I dearly wanted massive quantities of ice cube making and storage capacity.

Our basement's already too crowded to add anything else to.

Now the refrigerator’s freezer can deal with things we access regularly, while that freezer is great for what we needed it for.

In order to be able to fully open the freezer door, I had to use the folding door’s locking thingy to make the door one solid door, rather than a folding door. (Had to remove the folding door to insert it into the space, though. Not a problem.)

There are smaller freezers still at Sears, but if we were going to use the space, I figured we'd USE THE SPACE!

We bought one at Lowe's for $150 plus tax. It is 23"w x 24"d x 32"h. The brand name is Holiday and it is rated at 5 cubic ft. Fits and rides between LR slide and the cabinet on the BR end of the trailer. Brought it home full of fish this spring and monitored the temperature while traveling two days about 8 hours each day. There was only about a five degree rise inside the freezer each day. Think that the empty weight of the freezer to be about 50 pounds.

There is a company called Avanti that makes small freezers. The one that I ordered is 33 1/2 inches tall by 20 1/2 wide by 20 1/2 deep. I plan on using it in place of one of our dining room chairs. It is an upright, not a chest freezer so the top will be a perfect place for the espresso machine! It is 3.2 cubic feet. Go to Bizrate.com, there you will find several retailers who carry it.

I have the very one that txkrumm purchased. I was able to put mine at the end of the counter in the kitchen (2980RL)....works great, fits perfect. I took out the top basket in the freezer and found a plastic tray that fits in there, we now have plenty of ice cubes.

This upright Avanti freezer works real well for us. Cost about &250.

I live in Seattle, and I tried to buy one locally, but ended up buying it online because it was so much cheaper...about $100 including the shipping. I don't have the paperwork in front of me, but it was about $179 + `$50 shipping online. It took about a week from New York.

I initially placed an order with a local appliance dealer; they called later and said they couldn't get it.
If you call Avanti directly, they can give you a list of dealers in your area. The phone number is 1-800-323-5029. Website is avantiproducts.com. I also paid 179 for mine and saved the shipping by purchasing it locally. It was a family owned chain called Rex's applicance in north dakota
Love mine, it is flush backed, door is reversible, and the top can be used for counter space. There are four clear drawers in the freezer, don't know if I will use them or not.

We bought the Sears 5 cu. ft. befroe the May Rally. We put it in the washer/dryer closet like Gyro. Have had no problems, a little warm till it cools down, then no heat buildup.

Today at Costco, I saw a 3.5 Cubic freezer. Real small and cheap. 159.00 CAD prbably be about 125.00 in the US.

OK, gotta ask, hope this is not off topic,

What do you want to keep or do keep in your freezers?? I can see that fisherman/women would want to store their catches, or maybe hunters, their meat.

But, what else are you going to use the freezers for?? Insight here, ole Carol wants insight.

Steve and I eat primarily wild game. Usually elk or antelope, some deer, pheasant, grouse, rarely moose or buffalo. We use it for everything from steak, roasts, burger, and sausage that we do ourselves. Very healthy way to eat. Much leaner and less cholesterol. Also delicious. There is nothing as good as a big juicy elk steak!

Avanti has been around for a long time. One year complete warranty on the freezer, after that it is five years on the compressor. I can't really tell you more than that, I haven't even plugged my unit in yet

I found that the top loading one didn't give me as many options for placement, just IMHO. The upright (see link posted above) gave me the option to reverse the door, very handy. I was able to put it at the end of the counter in the kitchen which gave me more counter space, or a place to crack ice. They are comparable in size and price.

I know that it is not very far to HEB when you are in the RGV, but I would think with your length of stay down there this would be a more convenient way of shopping and storing perishables. You know the limitations of freezer capacity in the Tana. We used ours in a dual purpose role when staying at the lake as it is twenty miles to the nearest major grocery store.
