Prodigy Brake Controller

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a great summer.

I recently installed a Prodigy brake controller on my TV and have set the boost to b.2 and the power level to 6.5. When I step on the brakes while pulling the fiver I only see the controller read out somewhere between a 2.0 and 2.5. Is that normal???

Thanks for you help.

Brad,
The prodigy has an internal accelerometer that helps modulate the braking effort. I see the same kinds of readouts for moderate braking. When I set up my controller, I increase th boost until trailer braking just starts to exceed truck braking. I will begin to feel a little jerking. Then I back off the boost until the jerking just goes away. After that, I don't pay much attention to the readout except to make sure things are working.

I believe so. Mine reads higher as I apply the brakes harder. Not sure about your boost number 6.2? Mine has boost levels 1, 2 or 3 with 3 the highest. I normally run power setting around 6.2 on boost level 1 but tap the boost button up one level to 2 if I have a long downgrade and want extra braking. Have never had to use boost 3. Usually if you are parked and you push the manual lever all the way you should read the highest setting you have programed which in your case should be the 6.5 setting. Same results parked if you hold the pedal down hard. Thats one of the neat things about the Prodigy you can set it and practically forget it. It applys braking based upon the pressure you apply to your TV brakes up to the max you select. I don't recall right now but I do not think the reading ever gets above my max setting in the boost modes. It just sets the trailer brakes a little earlier than the truck as you select boost 2 or 3. I set mine while rolling (coasting) slowly down grade on gravel just where the trailer brakes start to break loose. I use the manual lever for that test not the truck brakes. Then I double check it on the pavement using the same technique and feel the trailer stop the truck without sliding the tires. Works good for my 12,000 lb 3280RL. If I want to increase braking I just boost it one level and it does the rest automatically.

Others might have a little more information or different experience than mine.

If I recall, those numbers were similar to ours when we had the Prodigy and were applying moderate to light braking. Sometime try a hard stop and see if it doesn't read higher.
