Well, you learn something new everyday. Too bad some of them cost so much.

Yesterday backing into the service bay at the dealer, pow, truck rear window gone.

Fortunately, no damage to truck fram and just a little scar on Monty.

I had previously backed 90 degree jack knife without touching, but only cleared by less than 1 inch. Well, the ground was not level and this time it didn't work. when the ground is not level, the TT
5er rides closer to the TV.

From now on, the slider hitch goes back when backing.

I have a short bed as well. Fornatuly I learned the lesson through a good friend of mine who has a simular truck to mine. Very little damage to the truck, but shattered the back window. So I am good about putting the slide back or at least watch the back of the cab close.

Never had this problem with an 8' box....any future TV purchases will also have an 8' box.

With all the backing I have done over the past 19 months as a fulltimer not once has the Monty come close to touching the trucks rear window and I owe it all to the SuperGlide hitch. It's totally automatic. I never have to think about whether I should slide it or not. About the only thing I am looking at are obstacles near the truck and trailer. In mu mind, the total peace of mind of not worrying about sliding or not makes up for the difference in price. Now, add to the price of a manual slider the insurance deductible to replace a window and it ain't that much of a difference afterall.

Sorry you had the incident. Sometimes learning curve tuition can be a little elevated.

Short bed truck and I have a 70 gallon Trans-Flo bed fuel tank so I couldn't put a slider in.
I had them put on a 10" Pop-Up hitch extnder on the fith wheel tow box.
Makes it a little longer by 10" but don't have to worry about a slider or moving it.
It works for me.

When I bought my F350 in March of this year the difference in price between the short box and the long box bed was 200.00. Now with the CC and the LB that makes for a really long truck but we only tow with it and the difference between a 16K draw tite and the superglide is a lot more than 200.00.
