Outside lights Montana 3400RL 2009

Hello! My gifts lie in other areas than electronics. So, I'm struggling to understand this..I get that every thing except washer and dryer, hot water heater, and I think the fridge all come through the battery. Well, here's the thing.

We live in our 5th wheel (it's a long story), and it has sat in place for about a year. Last week we hooked it up and pulled it 350 miles to the other side of the state without any issues.
However, now the outside/curbside upper floodlight is on, and the hitch light is on, and I am thinking it's because they run off the battery, and the battery got charged by virtue of the drive.

So how do I turn these lights OFF? None of the switches on the switch panel operate them. The only documentation we have is showing the light switch panel and what each one is labeled.
I could hire an electrician to install a separate switch that operates each one...off and on..but I can't imagine any company would build an RV with lights that couldn't be turned off and on.

Can anyone help with this?

Thank you!

Jeff Levinson

Find your remote and turn them off with it. If those lights are turned on with the remote they can *ONLY* be turned off with it.

You can also disconnect from ac, disconnect the battery, then reconnect. That worked for us multiple times.

For us, this sort of thing and hardly any real use for it caused us to junk the remote.

Thank you for the reply. The remote just flashes a blue light and does nothing. Point is, they didn't turn on with the remote...unless they were turned on way back when, and only went off when the battery died.
I sense this is another point of learning

Try what 1retired06 suggested. It has worked for many in the past. Jim

Levi777 there is a simple way to check to see if the lights you mention are/have been turned on with the remote, or the relay in the remote receiver that controls these lights is stuck on.

Here is a picture of my receiver, yours may be not be exactly the same but if the lights can be controlled by the remote it will have a terminal named "light".

You can do a couple of things here, use a volt meter and check for voltage at that terminal, or you can disconnect that terminal, if the lights go out then it is a problem with the receiver or your battery in your remote may be low and it is not communicating with the receiver, thus not allowing you to turn it off with the remote. You can check that by viewing the receiver and turning the remote on, a red LED will light up on the receiver and if you are close you will hear an audible "click".

If you disconnect the "light" terminal at the receiver and your lights remain on then the problem will be with the switch on your main panel, mine is marked DS Flood light.

Removing the "light" terminal does "NOT" prevent you from turning these lights on manually from the control panel, it will however prevent them from being turned on by the remote.

There is a "Program" button on the remote receiver with instruction on how to program it, very simple and might also solve your problem if it is related to the receiver.

Not sure why so many have problems with their remotes, mine has worked flawlessly for 3 years but I have to replace the battery in it about every year.

Good luck, hope you find the problem

Irlpguy, thank you so much for the photo and explanation. Due to how difficult it was to get the screws out of the remote, my guess is it's a battery issue. Enough juice to make the light flash on the remote, but that's about it. I'll pick up a new one tomorrow.
Thank you!

If it is the black style remote, there is a hidden screw behind the sticker on the back. The screw is about in the middle of the remote.
