King size bed platform
Has anyone noticed that the king size wooden platform is small than the mattress? We didn't have this problem wit our 08. If I push the mattress to one side there is only an inch difference on the closet side however towards the head, where the night stand is the platform is cut back considerably at the point where it is hinged. The length is also shorter than the mattress by 1-2 inches.

Yes , I did notice , after I sat on the closet side rear corner of mattress and slid right off! I landed across the threshold of closet and got a nasty bruise. I am concerned that the mattress won't " hold up" since it is not supported.

Our friends experienced the same problem with a cheaper brand and added plywood to extend the platform. I hope this isn't Montanas way of saving money.

There have been previous reports that the queen platform was placed beneath the king bed. Measure and see if it is actually a queen sized bottom section from the hinge. Dealer should replace with proper size if so, if the top portion above the hinge is queen size, sounds like dealer or Keystone has some work to do. If the dealer tried to save money by swapping a king mattress only, the factory may not have been told to size the platform for a king bed. On our current and previous rigs, king size was ordered from factory and did not have any size issues.

I don't know the mattress size of our unit from the factory, but as advertised and bought from cw of southern alabama...it was a king. The top of the platform was queen size, the bottom hinged portion of the platform was sort of king size with the side towards the closet cut a little strange. So not surprised others have the reduced, low calorie platform. John

Our previous 3900FB and this Big Sky, both had/have king beds. The platforms at the head of the beds are only the width of a queen. The platforms that open at the foot are king. The foot of the mattress hangs off about 4-6 inches. Don't know the reasoning for this design.

I can't remember if the original mattress was well supported by the frame. We bought the Sleep Number bed in -08. I had to extend the plywood base to cover under the Sleep Number Mattress. Has worked out well. Did have to trim so it wouldn't hit the built in dresser. Otherwise worked out fine.

Are the platforms solid plywood or the slatted type ? I saw a recent YouTube video of a Lippert plant in Italy assembling a slatted, European-style platform that was also going to be made in U.S. once Lippert got their plant set up.
I ask because we have a 2011 3150 with a king, and it sits on a plywood platform, which is not ventilated. The slatted system is better for air circulation, avoiding condensation under the mattress, and a little more springy action.

You can always drill some 1/2'' holes in the solid plywood for ventilation. I'm not sure you would get the circulation under the mattress as you do at home on account the rv plywood is more like a lid on a box as the bottom sides are solid all the way around whereas at home you have circulation under the bed.
