The Forest River forum documents the 1st failure of Endurance today. Tires were installed in December. 1st failure I've seen which is indicting a decent tire and I'm glad I went with Sailun last June.

I think there were some that have high hopes for the Goodyear. I hope the Endurance does not have the growing pains the G614 had.

Has anyone heard of Advance Tires? We went to our local place to get Sailuns and they told us they could order them. Now they are telling us that they couldn't get them and that Advance Tires are made by the same company and are comparable tires.

What do you folks think? They are G rated and pretty hefty looking tires.

Time to find another dealer or order them online and have your dealer install Sailun.

Unfortunately none of the tire places here will put them on unless they are purchased at their location! I can't seem to find anything online about Advance being the same manufacturer as Sailun (thats what the tire place said).

The manufacturer / plant are on the side of the tire by a code number. Even if the same manufacturer may be a different plant or even just different building process. Just me, but I have as much faith in Advance as the Rainiers that came on my 5er I kept a total of 1 day and 43 miles. Good luck....

Never heard of Advance and can't connect them to Sailun. Thats not to say they're wrong. Simple Tire had designated installers when I purchased my Sailuns. The tires were drop shipped to the installer. I have to believe you will find someone to install them.

I bought my Sailuns at a Big O dealer. You have one near you at 5130 Mae Anne Ave, Reno, NV 89523 - (775) 787-3222

I have used Les Schwab in the past to install tires purchased online. I took the tires and rims to them and they mounted them for a nominal charge. There are two in Reno. One is at 9500 S Virginia St, Reno, NV 89511 -(775) 851-2121

While I haven't used them to install tires not bought there, I have found Discount Tires to be very good to work with. They might be worth a try too. 7450 S VIRGINIA ST, Reno, NV - 775-852-9081

Sorry, I was not clear. Me bad. I was referring to the post #42 by Cheesy1 when it was mentioned "The Beast is a new tire by Good-Year that comes installed on top of the line 2018 SOB". I knew that SOB was a NASA term for "Some Other Brand". I was just curious which SOB was being referred to. Apologies to all for my vagueness of question.

So a friend of ours just mentioned something he heard on the radio? Has anyone else heard about this? "FYI Just heard a short item on radio that said the "Feds" are looking into defective Goodyear(?) tires used on RVs that have resulted in deadly accidents." I have the G614's, and have had no problems. Anybody else heard anything about Goodyear RV tires having problems?

The issue is the G159 tire that was used for delivery vehicles, and also sold for use on motor homes. This has nothing to do with the G614.

SCENE & HEARD
Unsealed Court Docs: Goodyear Knew About Fatal RV Tire Failures for 20 Years; Feds Seeking Additional Records From Company
Posted By Vince Grzegorek vgrzegorek@clevescene.com> on Thu, Apr 5, 2018 at 2:40 pm
feature-goodyear-millikin-horizontal.jpg

Court documents unsealed yesterday by a judge in Arizona and obtained by Jalopnik contain an assortment of important revelations about what and when Goodyear knew about the G159, an RV tire manufactured by the company linked to at least 9 deaths, dozens of injuries and hundreds of crashes, and the subject of numerous lawsuits, since 1996.

Those documents had been sealed as part of settlements and court hearings, and thus largely hidden from public view. They also confirm information from Jalopnik's investigation into the tire, republished by Scene a couple of weeks ago, that found when installed on motorhomes, which are regularly driven at more than 65 mph, the G159 commonly suffered from heat-induced failure.

Among the revelations:

1) Goodyear received claims on failures of the G159 as early as 1996, the year it was first made.

2) Goodyear, in reports to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2006, drastically understated how many incidents the tire, dubbed "the worst tire ever made," was involved in, citing only 7 injuries to the NHTSA even though it'd received reports of more than 74, and citing 58 failures when it knew of at least 458.

3) Goodyear continued to receive reports of failures and injuries from the tire, of which it made an estimated 40,000 of between 1996 and 2003, up until at least 2015.

The NHTSA sent a letter to Goodyear this week requesting additional information from the company on what it knew about the tire's performance. It had previously agreed on Dec. 28, 2017, to open an investigation after receiving a request and information from David Kurtz, an attorney with an ongoing case against the company.

“Goodyear’s need to maintain the confidentiality of the information or materials produced pursuant to the protective order does not come close to outweighing the public’s need for access (through CAS) with respect to information that relates specifically to the G159 tire,” the judge, John Hannah, wrote. “That information—primarily concerning the tire’s design, its testing, the decision to market it for use on motor homes, and the adjustment data generated by consumer experience with it—should be made public because it relates to and reveals a substantial potential risk to public health or safety.”

Only thing I've seen officially released from NHTSA involved some Les Schwab retreads and some Sumimoto tires in 22.5" size.

These were a 16.5" tire made for local delivery trucks and carried a 65 MPH speed rating. Don't know how they ever ended up on Smaller RVs.
But do agree that they should have been pulled from the market long before they were.
