San Antonio RV Parks

We are looking to find a RV Park near San Antonio, TX for January, February and March of 2019. We are looking for something near some of the local attractions like the Alamo, the River Walk etc .
We forgot to make next years reservations when we arrived in Georgia this January and they are now full for next winter. So we decided to try somewhere else.
If anyone has stayed in the area and have recommendations we would appreciate them.

Thanks in advance

Dennis

We stayed at Traveler’s World RV Resort in San Antonio several years ago and would again. It is about 3 miles south of downtown on a street that goes directly downtown and crosses over the Riverwalk. Easy access to that plus Alamo area and Mercado area. Very near the mission trail. And a Walmart about a mile away. Bus stop right in front to downtown if you prefer not to drive.

Apparently popular with snowbirds as it was early April (I think) and they were having an end of season potluck dinner for those getting ready to head back north.

But ask me about directions if you are interested.

Bill, Patricia and Molly. Thank you for you reply. I have looked at that campground and see they have a 4.4 rating which is pretty good. We are looking for a nice, clean and safe area to stay for several months with something to do. We will have to give them a call to see if they have any openings for next winter.

Thanks again
Dennis

Again, ask me about directions if you choose that park. There is one street with a very bad railroad crossing that you would likely drag the rear going over and you want to avoid.

If you are military in any way or DOD, you might try the Famcamp at Fort San Houston. Not sure what the max length of stay is though.

San Antonio KOA

We always stay at the San Antonio KOA. I stayed there as a kid for Hemisfair ‘67 and have probably stayed there 50 times since. We love the location (close to downtown) but it is central to anywhere we want to go. We have caught the bus to go downtown several times. Nice trees and lots of shade. Great pool. It is gated so we feel safe. Additionally someone is working the gate and campground security at night. We have driven by all the other campgrounds and we stick with the KOA. The bath houses are remodeled and clean. Maybe if you only want to do 6 Flags or Seaworld there might be a place out that way but I can’t remember the names of those places right now. They had a 500 yr flood October 1998 and the office and the whole park was 6’ under water plus it damaged most of the facilities. They have been building and improving ever since.

I agree with the post above about travelers world - we liked it also but have never stayed there.

Both KOA and Travelers World are near Alamo City Golf Trail courses--Willow Springs and RIverside--if you are golfers. Also near the really great bike paths. Since I live here our favorite RV Park is our stick house! Hope you can make it next season!

We stayed there several years ago and agree it is a nice park and nice people work there. It was fine for a short 5 day stay but boy was it tight. neighbors awning right under our window and our awning right under the next neighbors window. And neither of the awnings were fully extended. Pretty tight getting in and out with our 34 foot unit. Not sure I would pick it for an extended stay unless they have made some bigger spaces.

I think it sort of depends on which spot you get. The couple we stayed there we had a oversized spot because that's what the DW wanted. I also think we paid a bit more for it. I just go where I'm told to go.

We also have stayed at the KOA. Nice park, shaded. Last stayed there July 2015. They had low voltage on our row and when we turned on breaker it blew out one A/C on our 10 yr old SOB. Very upset. A few days later I realized they had done me a favor...I found and purchased our new 2015 Montana 3611RL. I decided if one a/c went out the second one would be next and then probably many other items to be replaced. Anyway, be sure they have corrected the electrical issues. Don't remember what row we were on, sorry.

Thanks to all those who replied to our post. I called Traveler's World Rv Resort and Hidden Valley RV Park. Neither could take a reservation this early for an RV this size. They both said to call again in November. I also called San Antonio KOA and they are double the cost of either of the other two and only have January and March open. Although it's risky I guess we have to wait until November to find out where we are going to live. If it doesn't work out then maybe we will try Arizona.

We are presently in the San Antonio KOA. If you are looking for things to do in the park it is mostly designed for kids. Has a nice pool, laundry facilities and showers are clean. We are mainly travelling into the Alamo and River Walk, along with various other areas we want to visit so this is a good location for our purpose. City bus at the gate to drop you off two blocks from he Alamo and Riverwalk. If you like to bike there is an excellent concrete bike path behind the park. Park is gated and has 24 hour security and is very quiet at night. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Just a final note on the KOA. If you are planning to stay for 3 months, there are no planned events like shuffleboard, dances etc as in over 55 parks. Most of the people we have met are here for the weekend or 1 week to visit San Antonio. I have not met anyone staying much longer. A very transient park.

We were able to get reservations at Travelers World RV Park from January through March. Apparently there are issues with some crossing in the area. Any directions would be helpful.

Which direction will you be coming from?

The one thing you do not want to do is take E Southcross Blvd from I-37 because of the mentioned bad rail crossing. Suddenly rises about 3 ft above the street level, and drops off the same quickly on the other side. My 34' made it OK, but I would not try with anything longer. Lots of gouge marks in the pavement. I did not try that twice.

If traveling down I-35 from the north or I-10 from the east, I recommend taking I-410 around the east and southeast side of San Antonio until you reach Roosevelt Ave. Then north of Roosevelt to Traveler's World, about two miles.

Alternately, you could take SE Military Dr from I-37 over to Roosevelt and then north.

Thanks for the info. I believe we will be coming South on 35. The rear of our 5th wheel is about 12 feet from the last axle so I'm sure I would scrape the back end.
