We use the Verizon Chaperone service for Carol's father, who gets lost occasionally. This is used by a lot of parents to track their children but this serves our purpose nicely, too. It is a way that we can locate him if he needs help and he keeps his dignity.

My original post is a joke!!!!

All joking aside. Technology has changed and GPS tracking is available. Cell phone tracking has always been available to some extent. One thing you should tell your children, even if they have an older cell phone, is that if anything ever happens to them to try and make sure their cell phone is turned on. Law enforcement can enact legal help from the phone companies and locate a cell phone to a specific geographic locations around a "cell." Once that has happened, there are special direction finding equipment that can be brought in and a triangularization can be performed on the cell phone number.

Also, all cell phones, whether they have been activated or not, can dial 911.
